Hello there to everyone,I did not realize there were any Brits in Scalea, or at least have never met any as yet and we have been coming here since 1987!!! On and off until we built a house in Foresta,Praia a Mare just up the road from Scalea. It would be nice to meet some of you where are you all hiding? We decieded we needed something to do whilst spending half of the year here so are doing bed and breakfast in our lovely home for people from all over the world, last year we had folks from New Zealand and Scotland and also from London. Some great friends of ours have just bought a house not far from us also and they have moved from Capri!!
Have been looking at old messages about Brit Tv, seems it is impossible to get here but friends daughter who lives on Capri gets it ok, ITV through Sky I think. Online I cannot get anything either, it will just block you because you are abroad.

As for shopping in Scalea and prices,they are some what better than Praia a Mare most of the time, you just have to shop around for best offers. Alvi is closing down here and in Scalea they were a very good discount shop and I miss it.

There's quite a few of us in the area full-time and obviously many more with holiday homes here.

We are in Belvedere Marittimo but have friends in a lot of the towns around and about including Scalea, Santa Maria Del Cedro, Santa Domenica Talao, Tortora, San Nicola Arcella, Lauria and Maratea.

Picking up on your point above, the best way to get British TV now abroad is if you register for a VPN access at http://satellitesonline4u.com/. Click on S4U Membership options , the charge is 8euors a month but the service is good as long as you have a good broadband connection. HD quality will be starting soon.
