Hello - please tell me about Scalea! I am new to forums and a first-time visitor to Calabria this month in Capo Vaticano and liked it very much - laid back, affordable, low key, unpolluted and stunning! I have a contact in San Lucido but I like the look of Scalea, Praia di Mare, San Nicola and being near to the Pollino N.P. would be great.
I am retired and looking to spend some time away from my home in London (for understandable reasons?) in spring and autumn so looking to rent or even buy small apartment. How are the prices in Scalea for everyday supplies like food, wine, water, petrol and utilities, taxes? Is there anything on the forum already giving prices? I guess for those of us not in the Eurozone the future is looking a bit grim at the moment, especially if you have in mind to invest in property using sterling! I am also interested in learning the language and wondered how much tuition costs.
My lifelong sports have been sailing and riding so would like to explore what possibilities there might be for indulging in those pursuits (in a gentle fashion!) but mainly it's the cost of living in Scalea that I need info on. Would be very grateful to any members who can give me even a limited idea. Also weblinks to estate agents who handle both old and new properties in and around Scalea.
Am looking forward to hearing from some experienced 'Italophiles'.
