Hi John,
We did the A3 a couple weeks ago. Work continues and I could not say if anything new has been completed. Maybe I've gotten used to the slow downs and winding around, but it was not as annoying as in the past! Finally did make note that weekday traffic is a great deal lighter than Saturdays when everyone is traveling around.

Have a good visit.

Thumbs up

Thanks Doug

When we drive over, we hit that last stretch in the early hours and after two hard days driving its Hell !!

I hope Christmas went well?
I intend to sort out some Air Con for the summer, and Heating for next winter, when who knows we may go to Scalea for Christmas/New Year

I have high hopes for a flueless gas fire which runs off LPG bottled gas, 3.3kw so it should warm the lounge area nicely.

Thanks for the info

Best wishes

John

Default Gas Heating

Hi Doug I have a small Apartment in Scalea and I would like to install a central heating system. I was interested in the gas system you mention in todays post. Do you have the name of someone who installs it and have you got a price yet.
Regards Annette

Hi John:

The majority of the A3 roadwork has been completed around the Potenza exit area. The new project has started a couple of miles south after the Sala Consilina (not sure of spelling) rest area (AutoGrill) and it continues to the Lagonegro exit. At the moment this is very disappointing since it looks like it will be an extensive rebuilding - new tunnels and new roadway - probably will take years. I am sure when it is all finished it will be great but until then - patience is needed.

We will be back for the summer and I hope to see more progress! Have a great trip.

Janet

Hi John and Annette,
Yes Christmas was good. We slowly are getting the hang of our gas heating stove and although I would replace it with a flue model if money were no object, it is getting better. Nothing like having a wife who finds the directions for the device to use it properly Those mobile gas heaters are real popular and effective. I learned there are two varieties -- one with an open flame and another using a catalytic device. I was told the catalytic is more efficient AND does not produce quite as much moisture. Water is a by-product of burning gas as you know. We had condensation problems on the windows until we cut back on our stove's output and kept a window cracked for fresh air supply.

Annette, The little un-vented stove we installed in Santa Domenica is adequate for a space of 60-100 M2, but they must have wall vents for ventilation for sure. Just looked at the receipts from Crusco in Grisolia. The "Ambiance" stove from British Fires was 2200 euro plus venting costs of about 300euro plus cost to run the gas line to the living room. If you don't have mains gas and rely on bottles, this unit may not be what you want and the mobiles mentioned above would suffice. They are certainly much less expensive at about 250 per unit. Most stores like Spar sell them. Pellet stoves are available at the Gorfort store in Grisolia, but they must be vented. We chose gas heat stove, gas tankless water heater and the gas hob since the mains are in SDT now. Let me know if you want more.

Cheers,
Doug
