Default Snow in the Sila Mountains

Does anyone know if there has been any snowfall in the Sila mountains?
We were having thoughts about maybe taking a trip there from Santa Domenica Talao over the Christmas break and even staying over for a night if it was worth it. Any tips as to where would be the best place to head for? Would there be any snow sports happening at that time?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Grazia

Hi Niamh,
The most popular place in Sila seems to be Camigliatello.

Here's a link to a website that also has snow forecasts.

Camigliatello Silano Weather Forecast, Snow Report and Resort Information - Snow-Forecast.com

In the other direction and, I believe, closer to Scalea (northwards into Basilicata) there is also Mount Sirino.

It would appear so far that there might just be a little snow at the highest levels.

Hi Niamh and Lesley,
That is a handy little website and I'm surprised that I'd not seen it before. I like the maps they include to find those resorts in Calabria. We'll try to take a look at Monte Sirino over the holiday.

The forecast for one of my areas here is fairly accurate, although we anticipate 2 feet of snow over the weekend. The temperatures are the shocker that you'll see. Single digit F temps all the way into town. Good reason to stay bundled up at home studying Italian! Mt Hood Meadows 6 Day Snow Forecast for 2225 m (c) Snow-Forecast.com - Snow-Forecast.com

Thanks for the tips, Lesley;

trouble is that the guys compiling this web site must be very confused: the text reports this: "Monte Sirino, in Italy (in the Piemonte region), is a small ski resort with just 4 ski lifts (1 chair lift, 3 surface lifts) ...." and then, they show the map of Calabria! Some 1200 km away! Do these guys know any geography?

Anyway, thanks a lot. This site is going to be very useful to me too. One just has to make sure to double check the info before sticking the proverbial neck out.

ciao

Yes, I'd noticed that and had a little chuckle.
Looks like a "cut and paste" error at some point!
We have some friends who have a house close to Mt Sirino so hopefully will be checking it out at some point this winter.
I've heard it is very inexpensive to hire all the necessary ski equipment there.
