We are off to scalea for 9 days on Friday 7 Nov. Just woundering what the weather is like? Is it warm enough for shorts and a swim or do we have to pack the woolies! Really looking forward to our trip as I didnt make it there at all for the summer this year. So I hope its not too late for a bit of sun.

Well just now the weather is glorious.
At this very moment (11pm) it is 21.5 degrees outside.
The days have been very warm and mostly sunny.
the forecast tomorrow is for sun all day and 24 degrees (but in reality it will get warmer than that in the sun).
Unfortunately, I don't have a crystal ball so I can't predict the weather from Friday onwards 8-(.
I assume this lovely sunny spell will have to break sometime - but let's hope not for a while!
Speaking to one of Julie's friends tonight she was telling us how she got on the aeroplane in the UK last Friday morning with so many layers on she was like a Michelin man and got off with just a T-shirt on
Regards, Lesley (Hi Julie - just given you a mention so get signed up, pet!)

Default re half term weather

We have just returned from a 10 day half term break in Scalea and the weather was fabulous. We had only one non beach day and were able to sit out in the evenings. The two children who stayed with us were in the sea every day! We had a fabulous time as it postponed winter that bit longer. The clock changing meant it got dark early (when it was still very warm). We were out at this time last year and had snow so we were very pleased indeed this year.
Is there any chance that you are the Mary with the apartment in La Bussola which we rented last summer?

Well at this very moment (Wed evening 7.20pm) there is thunder and lightning all around us (amazing forked lightning which is lighting up the whole sky).
It was hammering down earlier but isn't raining just now.
It had felt very "close" and "thundery" this afternoon so the arrival of the storm wasn't a great surprise.

Thanks Lesley. Now I am really excited about our trip. The weather is so bad here in Ireland it will make a nice change over there even if we get some wet days, at least its warm. Yes Ursula its the same Mary with Apt in La Bussola. Great you had such good weather on your holiday, hope we ll be as lucky. Did you buy in Scalea yet?

Red face Weather in Scalea

Hi

I wondered if anyone could tell me what the weather is like today and for the next few days. My sister is over at the apartment and wondered what the forecast was.

Kind regards

MC

Weather sounds lovely atm.

I hijacked the flights thread to ask about history of weather in Feb half term - probably the wrong place to put it, so as this is the weather thread....

does anyone have personal previous experience of weather in a feb half term for Scalea?

Thanks,
Mrs Teapot

Default Weather in February

Hi .I was in Scalea last February .The weather was very nice during the day but the evening's were very chilly. The restaurants were also very cold as they didnt seem to have any means of heating. It may have been a bit colder that normal for the area but I would bring some warm clothes for the evening . Regards Annette

thanks for that Annette - in fact, you've been more helpful that you could realise. Cheers for that!

Incidentally, anyone know why the diamante webcam is stuck on 7th Oct?

Hello Mrs Teapot. We were over 2 years ago and had a great time. The weather was great about 22degrees we pottered around the beach.Nights were quiet cold a good pair of pjs and a hot water bottle.I bought a heater in the supermarket and it did the job.The apartments are not really designed to hold the heat.Because we had the car we headed up the mountains in search of snow at the local ski resort, and that was really lovely.Have a great timexx Fifi

Hi Mrs. Teapot,
I guess no one has tried to repair that Diamante camera. Have you seen this one at Positano to the north? Probably fairly similar weather. Pretty little town, but makes your knees ache if you stare at the image too long.

Default 28 Nov Weather

Well, here I sit in a cold old house in Santa Domenica waiting for the sun to rise. My father forgot I was in Italy (with a big time change) and called me at 3:30 this morning regarding Thanksgiving (a big American holiday that I spent watching Italian kids kick a soccer ball in Piazza Carabrese rather than American football on the tele). Between him and shivering in this cold house, I'm awake! I've had the new gas heater going for 18 hours and the indoor temp is still 16 C/60F. Takes awhile to heat these thick walls eh?

I can tell you that it is overcast and dry with outdoor temps at 10 in SDT this early morning. Heading to Belvedere in a few hours and the day should be around 17 like Lesley suggests. Cool, but warmer than home. The predicted rain has not materialized as yet.

Ciao,

Smile Weather

Boy I can sympathise Doug, we were over in December last year and even with our gas heater it was cold in the apartment at night. So like Giancarlo buying another heater will be our first port of call when we come over on the 30th December. We are leaving again on the 2nd January, and I'm just wondering if I could do without a shower for those few days!!!

Hope to meet up with you and Giancarlo and Elaine when we are there.

Ciao

Val & Mark. Hope you have a good day with Brian and Lesley!!

Well we ate outside in Belvedere on Thursday as it was really lovely but yesterday was blowing a gale and today is raining.
I suppose we can't have full on sun all the time.....
the forecast isn't too great for today but tomorrow is looking better.
So we might still get a chance to call at the Chocolate Festival in Praia which is going on this weekend.

Lesley understated Saturday's weather a tad. When I stepped outside at 5:30 to see what all the noise was about and to watch lightning, the water was coming down the street (steps) with nearly enough volume to carry a kayak! Gadzooks it can rain here. I found erosion debris on the road above Papasidero beneath one of last summer's fires that removed stabilizing ground vegetation.

But by golly, the weather changes fast here and Sunday has been a delight. I was in shirtsleeves with the car window down to and from Scalea today. Sweet The forecast to Tuesday (when our furniture shipment is expected) is for dry weather then getting more rotten as the week progresses.

What a great word - gadzooks!
We're used to the rain here now so, in future, if I say its raining it could well mean it is torrential ('tis Italy after all - we don't do anything by halves...)

Exclamation Brrrrrrr!

To all who may be interested:

The whole of the UK is covered in a blanket of snow, so we are in the middle of a good, old-fashioned British winter here! Apparently, it is the worst snowfall we've had in 18 years. As usual, it has caused travel chaos on the roads and railways and airports have temporarily closed, as well as many schools. Well, seeing as it's like the winters I remember when I was little, might this bode well for the summer, I wonder? Hmmm.......perhaps that's a bit too hopeful!

Ciao,

Frances.

Frances,
Were you that girl with the blue coat and silly red boots, with strings on your mittens that I met along the 5 mile (uphill) walk to school??!

Oh, wrong country. But isn't it funny how we all remember heavier winters from our youth? I remember my father having to ski about a mile to get to an open road where he caught a ride to work for 2 weeks when I was a kid in Ohio.

Enjoy the white moment UK, and steer in the direction of the skid.

Doug

Doug,

How did you know?! Except that it would have been more likely if you'd have met me sliding down the other side of that hill! Lol! We used to have such fun making slides in the playground back then! My last memory was of slipping, falling backwards and cracking my head on the frozen playground - and then literally seeing stars!! (Aside: Maybe that explains my lack of memory now.......and probably a lot of other issues! Lol!) Nowadays, such things are probably precluded by health and safety laws or, more to the point, disallowed due to the possibility of claims being lodged against schools. I wouldn't know about that but the thought just occurred to me. Also, we don't usually see that much snow during the winter now in our neck of the woods, although I understand the north of the country tends to get its fair share somewhere along the line. I guess it just feels more normal - and healthier - to have a real, crisp, bright, cold spell during the winter, rather than dreary, cold and damp days. Can't say it's made much difference to the prevalence of viruses this year, though. It'll be interesting to see what we get during the spring and summer this year - again, my early memories of those seasons in England are quite different to what we experience now. Watch this space!

Ciao a tutti,

Frances.

Default Geography

Am I right that Suffolk is on the east east coast, east of London and south of Ipswich? And it is a county correct? I need to learn more about the UK

London weather made all the papers and news here today.
