As a newcomer with an interest in classical music, I wonder if there is anything here of interest - the odd concert within driving distance, actual musical/choral activities etc. etc.

Also, where can one get a good selection of CDs? Didn't bring any with me, and would like a bit of music at home here in S Nicola.

Hi Dermot,
Welcome to the forum.
Are you in San Nicola permanently or is it a holiday home?
There was a series of classical concerts in Praia in the summer - see here:
http://www.scalea.info/forum/chit-ch...raia-mare.html (Classical Concert Series - Praia a Mare)
and there's often other choral and instrumental stuff happening around and about.
In Santa Maria Del Cedro there is a chamber group that perform both locally and further afield.
Here's a link to their website:
Benvenuti - I Cameristi di Laos

My son is a classical pianist who specialises in contemporary music (not everyone's cup of tea, I realise 8-)) ) but unfortunately he doesn't live with us here in Italy.

Best wishes, Lesley

Hope that is useful, any other queries just ask!

Thanks very much,Lesley - sounds promising. We bought here, in Parco Rocca dei Principi, and are intending to divide our time as fancy - and air fares - dictate, between this lovely place and the other lovely place we live in in Ireland. As we are both retired, we're free to come and go.

Yes, I agree that contemporary music can be challenging - I find some exciting, some distasteful and some simply uninteresting.

I shall certainly go to that link you gave me as soon as I leave this Forum.

Best regards

Dermot
