Thumbs up New Bus Route For Scalea

Oh Joy! Scalea now has two bus routes listed on the Autoservizi Preite Web Site.

Linea A, which is the around-town runabout (Circolare Cittadina) route which runs from 9am to 2pm and Linea B, a La Burca to Piano Dell’Acqua (Linea del Mare) route which runs from 9:30am to 6:30pm (going) and from 10am to 8pm (returning).

The Linea A timetable gives a clear statement of the entire route (though you need to map to follow it) but no actual times. I guess you wait and hope. Bit like London, really.

The Linea B timetable gives very specific times and route, which is handy.

Between the two routes you can now get from one end of town to the other from about 9am to 6:30/8:00pm (depending which way you are going). This may explain the profusion of brand new Bus Stops which have sprung up all over the place over the past few months. They look just like street signs but have ’Servizio Urbano Scalea’ written on them.

Things are really looking up and the new Autolinea No. 7 timetable now explicitly states that no buses run on Sunday. That would have saved me a long and useless wait some time ago!!

Check it all out: http://www.autoservizipreite.it/modules.php?name=Orari under Auotlinea No 33.

Some 313 people have currently voted to bring the Airport bus back with 97.76% in favour. So, perhaps in time we will have an Airport bus also.

I cannot help thinking that this fantastic Web-site has played a large part in bringing Scalea to the attention of the wider world and of bringing it’s potential to the attention of the City Fathers. Well done, David. But you should get a large promotional fee for all of this. It’s thousands of pounds worth of free advertising for the City of Scalea.

London weather?

Well, we had a blistering hot day yesterday with a big blue sky and today it’s thunder, lightening and rain.

So, you will have lots of choice!!

Hi

Does anyone know if the new bus route (or any buses!) go near Parco Meridiana?

I am staying there later this month for a week and it would be handy to get the bus to and from the town as my husband has a dodgy knee!

Or - do you think it is walkable?

thanks 8-)

Default New bus route

Hi Grohl

I have an apartment at Parco Meridiana and yes Scalea is walkable but the return journey back up the hill can be a bit demanding so for someone with dodgy knees it may not be advisable, especially if you are carrying shopping etc. There are shops and a supermarket near the complex but I don't know if they are open in September.

When we were last out there the buses were running at least every hour. They passed the bottom of the road at about 20 past the hour. I don't know where the pick up point is? But I am sure you can ask.

What period will you be there? Because ourselves and Heather and Steve will be there if you need any help.

Ciao

John

Mrs Grohl

I went on the link that PatMc supplied, and have worked out the following:-
Linea A is a circular which goes to the various stops from one end of the town to the other, amongst the stops is the Station and then to Petrosa, which is where Parco Meridiana is, it travels along Via Raffaello which is 5 min walk away, but only runs between 9am and 2pm.
Linea B runs from just outside Cedro to Scalea and stops at Parco Domenico which is next to the swimming pool in Petrosa, never heard of Piano dell'acqua where the route ends. Don't know the times of this one.

Ciao

Steve

Default buses

Hi all

Well done Steve. I had looked at that route and hadn't recognised that street name. I have now looked it up on Google earth. That makes things a lot easier. Plenty of stops and options to catch the bus. It should be fairly frequent and run all year round.

Ciao

Hi all

Many thanks for the information. Very kind of you and very useful. we are hiring a car but I think we will try to use the bus to get up and down so we can enjoy some vino!

We will be in Parco 14th - 20th Sept. Just look out for the 4 pasty-looking Scots.

thanks again!

Hi Mrs Grohl

We will just miss you at Parco Meridiana. We're out on the 24th.

Have a good time. Enjoy the pool. Hope the weather is better than in the UK.

Ciao

John
