We have friends who are visiting us while out in Scalea in September and would like to take them out for a really nice meal. The only problem is that they are veggies (vegetarians not vegetables!) and very hard to please as they don't eat pasta or pizza either!!! Does anyone know of a nice restaurant that can solve our problem (and no, before someone asks, it wouldn't be easier to change our friends). They both love salads and will eat fish but getting them to try anything different is a nightmare. They are both really looking forward to coming to Italy (they haven't flown for over 20 years and have never experienced Ryanair before!!). It will be their first break away abroad from their 4 children and we want it to be really special for them but we know from past experience that the food side of things will be difficult so please, please if anyone has any ideas we would really appreciate it. Failing this it looks like we'll be eating in every night which would be a real shame with so many great places to eat around.
Fattoria di Arieste are good for catering for vegetarians if you let them know.
Also Chez Enzo will do their best to accommodate vegetarians.
La Rondinella puts out an array of antipasti that I always say would be enough for a whole meal.
In fact most places will try their best when asked but they will be amazed that they won't eat pasta 8-))
Hopefully they won't starve while they are with us! They are really excited about the trip and we can't wait to have a bit of sun and warmth (and the odd glass of vino
My wife and I are vegetarians, but unlike your guests, we do eat pasta and Pizza. Perhaps your guests have not had a taste of the real thing in Italy. Just get them to give it a try. You must try at least one new thing every time you go on holiday, it heightens the experience.
I'm sure they will cope with the variety of dishes on offer in Scalea. La Rondinella did oblige when we made it clear that we were vegetarians. Il Tari, a restaurant in the lower square of the old town, ( only a hundred meters from La Rondinella and with an english menu) were very good and it is a wonderful setting.
There are many more examples with fish dishes on the menu of most restaurants. We have had no problems as compared to 20 years ago when we first started visiting the country, it was a different deal then.
