Beaches in July??

Hi to all

We are due to arrive in Scalea mid July and whilst the pool is lovely we do like sitting on the beach! We have not been to Scalea in July before, so sitting on the beach in May wasn't a problem although we couldn't really understand the parking meters, especially the ones just outside of town opposite the furniture shop Casa Si? , can anyone help? The lidos were just being put into place, so we don't have any experience with these as well. Are these lidos all the same? Alison, I remember you telling me that you had been to one opposite a crossroads but can't remember where you said it was! Any idea how much these cost and what you get?
Are there any nice beaches in the area where you can just sit where you want?? I know the public beach is at bottom end of Scalea what's the parking like in July?

Any info would be great.

The Scalea beaches were so packed last August when we were there we opted to go to a beach David recommended outside the resort.

If you travel south from Scalea and take a right turn just before you enter the coastal part of Santa Maria del Cedro (the turn is opposite a sign for Marcellina), the road leads to a parking area and private beach. When we visited the beach was pretty quiet, very clean and there was fine, 'proper' sand (for building sandcastles). We paid 4 euro to park the car and for use of the facilities (cafe, showers and toilets), but we didn't hire sunbeds/parasols, because with two young children we didn't think we'd have chance to use them! I'm hoping we'll go there again this year, but it would be good to find out about other beaches that are OK during peak season.

Thanks for the info we will definitely try that lido first. Hopefully we will have a look around the area and any others we come across I will let you know. Hope to see you again at Parco Meridiana

to use the parking meter , if you press the yellow button on the front then it will sAY RESIDENTE, once this is displayed then it costs 2,50 euro per day (until 23,59 that night) otherwise you have to pay in 1,50 euro segments that only last for four hours each, this is especialy useful for those spending all day at the beach.
