Some other info on Orsomarso:
Orsomarso is a gateway to the Pollino National Park, a center of great environmental concern, and also is of historical importance.
The church, dedicated to John The Baptist and currently undergoing restoration, was built on the ruins of a medieval chapel and has the characteristics of the seventeenth century. Inside there are frescoes of the seventeenth century by Giovan Battista Colimodio, but also by an unknown. In the church of the Saviour there is a canvas that some attribute to Luca Giordano.
A few kilometers from the town, in the Mercury, on a high cliff overlooking the valley of Lao are the church of St. Maria di Mercuri and the ruins probably belonging to an abbey. The church dates from the sixth century and was built by monks from Syria. The architecture is linked to those of several Byzantine churches in the Riviera and in other parts of Calabria and in southern Italy. |
