Default Newsletter stories / photos / announcments welcome

Hi All,

Please if anyone thinks they have anything relevant for the next newsletter please do not hesitate to let us know. Things can include:

Stories, Poems, Good photos, questions, for sale or wanted posts, local events and news and anything else you think could benefit the newsletter.

Remember this is YOUR newsletter so any ideas or suggestions are always welcome. We will in the next issue have a couple of adverts to pay for printing some copies to leave around the area, this is becoming a serious newsletter so we have to cover costs (you never know one day we may hav enough left over for a beer!).

Please email anything to infoATscalea.info (replace AT with @)

Ciao, David

Hi David-
I was thinking about having links to all websites available for the various bus routes, but that kind of information might be better stored (and found) in the Forum under Area Directory - Transportation. At any rate, I think many of us would find bus schedules or access to bus schedules (and rates) very handy. They seem to run up and down ss18 and even out to Santa Domenica and beyond which is great. That would be a good permanent resting place for links to Trenitalia and similar internet sites.

You recently commented in a post how there are secluded beaches reached only by boat. Perhaps a listing of a few that can be reached by motor craft and which by paddling craft like a kayak, and where do you find public launch points to start. Anything like that would be fun and useful. Maybe the information has already been collected by someone else and we could get a link.....what ever. Grazie

Ciao,

Thank you for your suggustions:

Bus timetables - will be added under the transportation section as and when we get them. This we think is the best place as it will always be handy.

Hotel that allow you to use the pool is Hotel Talao, it does depend on how busy they are. It is usually 6 euros per person. Just pop in and ask them, they also speak English on the recpetion.

To get to Orsomarso you need to head towards Santa Maria Del Cedro along the main coast road and then take the turning for Orsomarso, it is about 12km in land.

Claire,
If I could just ask some questions before I suggest any venues?
How many would be in your party?
Are you looking for somewhere with some entertainment?
What sort of food would be you looking for?
Regards Lesley

Thanks for looking out for bus information - please remember to find the one that goes up/down Petrosa hill. Also I have no idea whether this runs in the evening or stops in the day.

Isn't there a new hotel built last year (ish) with a pool? Has anyone asked about outside users of their pool?

Do you have a section that says what road the tourist info office is on?

Oh I forgot:

Times the Aquafan taxi/little train runs from Aquafan to/from Praia a mare train station would be a big help also.

Post Silver Ristorante

Hi Dave,

During Our Recent Visit We All Ate At Ristorante Silver And The Seafood Was Fantastic. The Waiter Made A Fuss Of My Grandson And Helped Us With The Menu.
We Even Got My Fussy Son In Law A Variation Of Meat Dish As He is Not Very Adventurous. My Octopus And Baby Calamri Were Superb And My Daughter Had A Huge Swordfish Steak. Even The House Vino Rosso Was Brilliant. Whilst Not The Cheapest In Scalea The Quality Is Top Class.

Looking Forward To Revisiting In July

Bob

Mrs Teapot,

The tourist information office
http://www.scalea.info/forum/miscell...on-centre.html (Tourist information centre)

The newest hotel to be built in Scalea is Hotel Genova, they are planning on building a swimming pool. Home

Finding bus timetables is not the easiest of things, we will keep an eye out for them. I have made a seperate post for this just incase anyone else knows.

Regards
melanie

Default Swimming pools

Just dipped into this thread for the first time. Not sure how recent the corress is, but some people were asking about swimming pools. We would also be very interested in any info.

Just one little point. Last year I had a chat with one of the staff in Giorgio's Hotel (SS18, just before the San Nicola Arcella turn-off. going north). He Indicated that the use of their pool might be possible - a figure of Euro 5 was mentioned, but seemed negotiable.

I did not follow up at the time - the occasion did not arise - but will report if I get any further info. Maybe this knowledge is already out there - someone might clarify if so.

Smile Hotel Pools

Would be very interested in the San Giorgio pool, mainly for when we have guests so would like to follow this one up. We are very fond of The San Giorgio for a relaxing inexpensive meal, especially in summer when they open up the back terrace. It is so reasonably priced that it is ideal for going with larger groups if you don't want the bill to escalate. House wine excellent 4 euro
