Default Pollino National Park Offices

Ciao a tutti,
I hate to bug Lesley about everything, so if anyone has come across an office or visitor center for the park in any of the local towns, I'd like to know where so we can visit next month for more information, maps, etc. Di and I both work for the US Forest Service, so have an interest in the flora and fauna of Calabria!

Ciao,

Hi Doug,
Well I gave it a little while before posting my waffle but here goes.....8-))
I picked up a map of part of the Pollino National Park at the Tourist info office in Scalea a little while ago, it was produced by the Club Alpino Italiano. (I haven't come across any offices as such but that is not to say they don't exist!)
The map I have is for the south east corner of the park so is for Castrovillari and further south so isn't particularly relevant to the Scalea end.
Inside the map was a business card for one of the official guides to the Park.
His name is Luigi Perrone.
This is his website - interesting reading: Guida Ufficiale Parco Nazionale del Pollino, escursioni, gite con fuoristrada, trekking
Here's a list of all of the offficial guides of the park: Le Guide ufficiali ed esclusive del Parco

And the homepage is here : Home
Hope this is useful.
Best wishes, Lesley

According to the following link;
"In Parco Nazionale del Pollino, the following Visitor Centers will soon be open:

* San Paolo Albanese (PZ)
* Terranova (PZ)
* Viggianello (PZ)
* San Severino Lucano (PZ)
* Morano Calabro (CS)
* Mormanno (CS)
* San Donato di Ninea (CS)
* Frascineto (CS)
* Orsomarso (CS)
* Civita (CS)
* Francavilla in Sinni (PZ) "

If anyone finds any office open in any of these places can they let us know, please?
Thanks, Lesley

Well Lesley,
You come thru once again and we thank you. I was hoping to spread the burden of gathering and sharing info with the rest of us, but you seem to always have what everyone needs at your fingertip (or mouse tip)! I imagine the first centers would be built in the larger towns vs. Orsomarso size towns, so I'll check further and we may take some drives next month looking around. Now that house hunting is over, can we play a little??

You have been so helpful that I pledge to help you once we get moved. I bet those language classes are helping you sort thru new websites too eh?

Ciao, doug

Looking into the park website, I found phone numbers in all the little towns. I'm wondering if there are park employees who work out of their homes in some places. I never spotted an office in Orsomarso for instance, but there is a number listed. We shall call around, and look more closely in-person. Doug
