Default medical care

Sorry if this has already been covered! Does anybody know where the nearest Pronto Soccorso (Accident and Emergency) is to Scalea?

I am hoping that I never need to go but with 2 children there is always an outside chance!
I am sure I have read these things on the forum but I cannot find it. Is there still a Doctor service on the main road near the bank in Scalea?

Thanks Lucy

Hi Lucy
I had to go to a doctor with my 4 month old when I was in Scalea last week. He was a pediatrician and on Via Fume Lao, I found him very good. He doesnt speak English but I managed to get by with my Italian. You keep walking past Spar away from the town and it's across from the Chicco shop. Antonio Cantisani was his name. I dont know of any accident or emergency.

Default Medical Care

Hi Lucy:

Great question! I am also in need of medical information - my 14 year old son Elijah broke his arm (radius and ulna) last week and he will be in a cast for 8 weeks. We are leaving for Italy in less than 5 weeks. While in Italy, Elijah will need to see an orthopedic specialist to x-ray the arm and remove the cast.

Any recommendations would be welcomed!

Thanks,

Janet

The nearest A&E department is at praia hospital approximately 10km.

There is a walk in doctors opposite BNL bank, down the steps. They only cover minor things.

Anything major just head for Priaia.

Default Emergency

John,
I believe the address is Via San Stefano.
There are two tunnels you go through after leaving Scalea and the exit for the hospital is IMMEDIATELY on the right after you exit the second tunnel - just follow the signs from there.
Here's a link to an earlier post re emergency numbers for those who haven't yet seen it:

Best wishes, Lesley

I am so glad I asked the question about medical care but I may have tempted fate!
We have just returned from holiday in Scalea and both children were well when we arrived but within 24 hours our eldest AJ (5yr) developed Tonsillitis. After lots of salt gargles (which I am sure AJ will never thank me for) lots of Calpol and Nurofen a Dr was required. So off we went to the Paediatrician. Thanks for the address Cara! After a few doses of antibiotics AJ was much better and we could hit the beach.
I apologise if anybody else was on the beach for quiet afternoons last week!

Lucy
