Default Getting to Scalea from Lamezia

Can someone tell me if there is a bus service from Lamezia via Scalea. My sister is travelling Belfast/London/Scalea and instead of Stanstead/Naples she may try Lamezia instead if the bus service is there

Thanks
Jessie

Check Comune di Scalea website. There is a bus timetable under the section Come arrivare a Scalea. There is a bus from Lamezia that takes about 2 hours. Don't know how much it is.

Dear Jessie,

There has not been a direct Lamezia Airport -Scalea bus for the past two years, though they are thinking of re-introducing it. You would need to take the AutolineeRomna bus from Lamezia Airport to Cosenza and then the Preite Buses Autolinea No 7 from Cosenza to Scalea.

If you arrive at Lamezia Airport on the 10am Ryanair flight, you can catch AutolineeRomna bus right outside the airport at 10:50am and arrive in Cosenza just in time to catch the 12:05pm Cosenza- Scalea bus. The whole journey takes about 3 hours but goes over the Apennines all the way with spectacular views. The current fare is 4 Euros per bus. Unfortunately you can not do it the other way around to catch the 10:30am RyanAir flight back to London. The first Scalea-Cosenza bus arrives in Cosenza to late to catch the only Cosenza-Lamezia Airport bus which would get you to the Airport on time. The two bus stops in Scalea are outside Hotel Talao and outside the Hotel Parco dei Principi.

Check out the current times for Lamezia Airport to Cosenza bus at:
http://www.autolineeromano.com/

Check out current times for the Preite Autolinea No 7 bus at:
http://www.autoservizipreite.it/modules.php?name=Orari

To get back to Lamezia Airport from Scalea you could take the train. If you are leaving Scalea to catch the morning Ryanair flight from Lamezia back to London Stansted, there is currently a 7:45am direct Intercity train from Scalea arriving at Lamezia Terme Centrale at 9:00am with taxis (costing Euro 10) right outside the station to take you to the airport. If on time, this train is perfect. But beware, it can be anything from 20 minutes to one hour late. If twenty minutes late, you could just about make it. If an hour, you cannot and will need to take a taxi if you are to catch your flight. The man at the station can give you an update on its progress before you buy your ticket. Please check all details on the Trenitalia Web-site:

Amazing. How do you know all that? They obviously need to update the Comune website. Not surprising really. Considering that Scalea is the biggest comune for miles you would think that it could get its act together with regard to the internet. The comune just doesn't market itself properly.

Thanks for the info. I might have told my kids to get the bus next time they go on their own if this thread had not been started. Is it possible to leave the bus journey out altogether and use the train to Scalea?

Dear Lynn,

Yes, you can get a taxi right outside Lamezia Airport to Lamezia Terme Train Station for about Euro 10. It takes about 10 to 15 minutes. Then you can catch a train to Scalea Train Station. It costs about 12 to 14 Euros, depending on the train, and takes about 1 Hour 30 minutes. Unfortunately, the RyanAir flight arrives too late to enable you to catch a direct train (no changes) and this means that you will have to change at Paola and take one of the ratty old regional trains on to Scalea. The one ticket does the whole journey. But be careful to validate the ticket in one of the yellow boxes on the platform. It’s illegal to travel with an invalidated ticket.

How do I know? Because I do it!

One more thing: The Preite Bus company are taking a survey to see how many people would be interested in having a bus from Lamezia Airport to the Tirreno Communities (that’s us, folks). So far only 24 people have voted. So if you want the Lamezia - Scalea bus back , go to:

http://www.autoservizipreite.it/modu...rveys&pollID=5

And then vote the top button: Ritengo sia molto importante per il territorio

Default Lamezia/Scalea

Thanks Patmc for all that information. Have just registered my vote too. I'll pass all that information to my sister and she can decide what she wants to do. We usually fly direct from Belfast to Rome and drive down but unfortunately my brother-in-law is just not ready yet to brave the Italian drivers!

Ciao Jessie,
Can you tell me who fly to Rome from Belfast. We are flying from Dublin to Rome in August with Ryanair. I am flying Belfast to Stansted to Lamezia in June.

Grazie
Michael

Default Belfast/Lamezia

Hi Michael,
Aer Lingus are now flying direct from Belfast to Rome. It's great too if you are only bringing hand luggage as you can check in online from 30 hours before departure. You print out your boarding passes via directions online and that means you go straight through security and have no checks until you get to the boarding gate. As yet, you cannot do the same thing on the return from Rome (Fiumicino) as you will now be landing here with Aer Lingus instead of Ciampino but they are apparantly working on it at the moment so hopefully some time later in the year. We have just booked some flights for early September from Belfast but if we had checked the Ryanair Dublin/Rome first we could have gone over for I think 169 euro all in for both of us. The flights out were FREE , paying taxes only and the return flights very cheap (going out 10th and coming back on 17th).
Anyway, if you're happy driving down from Rome (we have got used to their extreme driving habits!) going from Belfast is great.

Jessie

Smile Rome Airports

Hi ,Just want to chip in my little bit on Ryanair or aer Lingus to Rome.If you go Ryanair to Rome ,you only come outside the entrance to the airport and join the main motorway south ,right outside.Where as the Aer Lingus flight goes into Di Vinci Airport ,and it is on the other side of Rome.I found it more straight forward to go to Campino.Just my opinion ,,Cool

Hi Cool,
Unfortunately when Easyjet stopped the Belfast/Rome route, it left Fiumicino the only option as that is where Aer Lingus flies into. After the first time though, we found it no problem as it is still handy enough for the motorway. The reason why we usually don't go via Dublin (we used to go Dublin/Naples) is that after the flight sometimes we felt very tired and having to come into Dublin and then drive up to Belfast left us shattered and since we only live 20 minutes from Belfast airport this was the best thing for us.

Cheers,
Jessie

Default Getting from Scalea to Lamezia

[quote=jessie;5210]Can someone tell me if there is a bus service from Lamezia via Scalea.

This question was asked some years ago. We often travel to and depart from Calabria on Sunday, which, on reflection, isn't very wise if you decide not to hire a car.

Trains are less plentiful, so one needs to leave early to catch the RA flight to Stansted at 16.20 with much heel kicking at Lamezia which offers little to do during the week so even less than enthralling during weekdays.

Some time ago i wondered about buses and found this link for the bus from Cosenza to Lamezia. It appears to take only 1 hour and is effective for 7 days up to Oct 2012.

Aeroporti** -*** Cosenza - Lamezia T.

The following is a link for more regional bus transport
Autoservizi Preite

eg Praia a Mare - Cosenza, going via Scalea. http://www.autoservizipreite.it/orari/aut_preite_07.pdf So if it leaves Hotel Talao at 12 noon you will arrive at Cosenza at 13.45pm.

A long scenic ride but if you are desperate and not in a hurry these links may be helpful.

Excellent, just checked the links; they appear to work.

From the spate of activity on the site you can be sure our thoughts are preceeding an imminent trip.
