July Festival in Scalea

Would anyone know the specific date(s) of the Madonna procession/festival in Scalea? I thought it may be around July 15th.

Festa della Madonna del Carmine is the 15th and 16th July usually,
I'll keep an eye out for more details and post any info on the calendar.

This festival on 15 and July 16 commemorates the special protection granted by Our Lady to the city during the terrible epidemic of cholera that occurred around 1870. The mayor during the festival offers a candle to the Madonna and symbols of prosperity and abundance (ears of wheat and olive twigs).
The festival is an opportunity for the faithful to demonstrate their endless devotion to the Virgin Mary and she is carried through the streets of the town in procession.
During the festival there is a magical atmosphere in the town, the street are lit with festive lighting and there are stalls offering all kinds of merchandise. The culmination of the celebrations is a spectacular midnight firework display.

More precise timings etc. to follow nearer the date.

Hi all,

The festa is really something to see, the procession goes right through the centro storico , the firework display on the beach front is amazing, last year was the best display that I have ever seen and heard (makes English fireworks seem like cars backfiring), so much so that we have booked flights again to come over so that we are in Scalea for this years festa.

It would be great to meet up with anyone that already knows us and those that dont yet, we will be in town from the 9th July to the 23rd, we will the couple running around after our whirlwind of a son with a bright green pram.

We'll miss it!! Didn't know anything about it and we leave on 15th Hope we can meet up. Maybe at Bar Pier. We are there from 25th June to 15th July.

Hi Lynn and the Campbell Family:

We will have to make a few dates to meet at the Bar Pier. We arrive on June 25th and will return to the USA on August 6th. I know we have a few small trips planned during our stay so we will need to work around everyone's schedule.

The Scalea Festival sounds like great fun - looking forward to the fireworks!
