Weather update

Morning all,

Well I have been assured by locals that the weather should (!) start to improve as of next week. They said that there is always one last push of winter in March and this is it... wind, rain, one final snow downful in the Sila mountains.. etc

So come on Mr sunshine we are all waiting for you.

Having looked at the weather this morning it has forcasted rain today and tomorrow with a nice day on Saturday.

Nice one Melanie. Here in London we are literally having 4 seasons in one day which alternates hail, snow (yes, over Easter), rain and lovely sunshine .... I am packing for heat for our April visit.

Hi Helena, I was so smug on Easter when I heard about the London snow and I was mowing the grass. This morning that same clipped lawn was blanketed by snow. Gone after a sunny day, but spring is struggling to break thru this year all about. doug

A friend in Germany said that their daffodils were blooming 2 months earlier than usual this year; I have had roses blooming practically through the winter here at home ...

I will be interested to see what I can grow in SDT - got a patch of earth under the lemon tree where there is some parsley and I was adding the ashes from the fire whilst there in January (visibly swelling with pride at the thought my lemon tree).

I guess the neighbours can lean across and help themselves through the season as it is just beside the path (or am I the only person that does this kind of thing if nobody's looking!!?).

I will check progress on your build as I pass in a week's time ...

Hi Helena,

No you are not the only one, although as a gardener myself I do try to just look. Gleaning is traditional in Italy and is especially popular with the older women. A woman from SDT with relatives in our building stopped me and gave me some parsley and peperoncino that she was out gathering. Maybe she got the parsley from under your lemon tree.

Since we will have no piece of earth at SDT I am planning (in my head) enormous clay pots...lemon trees have figured in those images. I have one in the greenhouse now with about 10 lemons. I'm researching how to take plants to Italy. I think citrus is out, though. I have some 30-year old plants that I have trouble thinking about abandoning since they have made it this far but I suppose I can find good homes for them.

If you do find changes at our place, snap a pic and I will add to my restoration thread. I have some from Stuart and Janet to add today.

The weather here is cloudy with snow.
