Question Driving from Rome

Ciao,
Has anybody driven down to Scalea from Rome Ciampino Airport? I was thinking of flying to Rome in August and driving down to Scalea. I would be going on the 13th and returning 28th. I know it is the main holiday period and there could be a lot of traffic. I would like to know if anyone has any idea how long it would take. Google map estimate the journey should take about 4 hours 45 mins.

I would be very greatful for any information.

Tante Grazie
Michael.

Hi Michael and a very happy ST Patricks day to you and all on the site, from Ireland. We have done the trip down from Rome and yes with a few stops its about 5 hrs.The road is a very good one from Rome to Napoli, thats about an hour.the delays are from Napoli on, we are going with Ryanair into Rome in August to but have booked the late flight, so we will travel from 1130pm on should be pretty quiet. As long as you stay on the main road down and not the coast (just jammers )its fine.XxFifi

Ciao,
Thanks very much for the info. I think I will try it. It is a lot easier than flying to stansted and sleeping in the airport.

Happy St Patricks Day to everyone.

Michael

Default How's the A3 these days

Hi all,

Thought I'd add onto this thread seeing as though we are coming over for Easter too :-)... How's the A3 at the mo? For the past couple of years it's been a bit murder from Salerno into Scalea. And if the roadworks are still ongoing on the A3 - How much time would you think to add to the journey.....?

Ciao

Hi Richtea,

Unfortunately the road works are still there.

Sorry forgot to say, it depends on traffic on the roadworks if you get stuck behind a wagon it could be an additional hour.

Default Ref: A3

Thanks Melanie,

Hope everyone's well and looking forward to seeing you all.

A final thing on the roadworks.......Does it change for night time? e.g. Is the A3 completely closed or so long winded that it might be better staying in Naples for the night. By my reckoning (which is limited!) we will be on the road 8-10pm at night......

No it is the same though the night, just take it slowly as at parts it is a bit hair raising. Me and David did rome to Scalea in 5 hours last month, this included a break!!!

See you soon
Mel
