Smile Furniture/Kitchen Shops

To Lesley,

I am a new member and I posted a message to you on your "San Valentino" thread -might have made a mistake so don't know if the message went to you or not.

We have bought a new appartment in Scalea, which will be ready at the end of March this year.
We have been on holiday many times to Scalea and we speak fluent italian.
So we decided it was time to move "full-time".
Need to furnish the place and we have seen Despar, which seems o.k.
The kitchen!! where can we go, because some of the big kitchen places say they need anything from 20/45 days.
Someone told us the best place to go is in Belvedere on lungomare is it another Despar/Interspar.
Any ideas on furniture and kitchen places.

Kind regards,

Gail

Hi Gail,
I'm just typing you up a response but was also thinking I should move the thread to here so you have saved me the bother - reply on its way soon!

Hi Gail,

I'm not sure if you have seen the almost new kitchen that is for sale on the forum (assuming it is still available?).
Here's a link:http://www.scalea.info/forum/chit-ch...chen-sale.html (nearly new kitchen for sale)
Here's a photo of it:
http://www.scalea.info/galleryold/al...fcaad79596c025

There is a furniture place just past Belvedere that we have only been into once but it has a large showroom full of all kinds of furniture, kitchens and there is a large marquee outside that has an outdoor furniture display (only in season though - so not at the moment!).
It is called CENTRO DISTRIBUZIONE MOBILI . We haven't bought anything from them so couldn't comment on cost or quality.

Then there is the furniture factory at Grisolia.
Here's a link: Benvenuto Mobili

This has a huge shrowroom over about 4 floors and is worth a visit because of the diverse range of stuff you can see (good for getting ideas too).
The staff are very friendly but they do that MFI thing of quoting prices then slicing 40% off to make you feel like you are getting a bargain so it would be worth doing some research re prices before you go.
They will come out and measure up the kitchen etc and also deliver and install.

Centregrosse & Euronics - above Spar in Scalea & Diamante.
The one above Spar was being refitted last time I looked in but might now be back to normal (anyone looked in lately and could update us?)
The one in Diamante is possibly larger - it has a downstairs for furniture and the upstairs is white goods and household stuff.
They deliver also (we ordered a complete bedroom suite including huge wardrobes so paid for delivery and for it all to be assembled which was money well spent).

If you are looking a little further afield there is also perSempre - near Lamezia Terme -
Here's a link: perSempre Arredamenti
The website might be of interest in any event to get some ideas.

Others have mentioned Ariete in Scalea and seem to have been pleased with them and there are loads of other furniture shops all along the stretch from Scalea to Belvedere that might be worth a look.
Hope this helps, Lesley

I have heard that there is a furniture and kitchen showroom in the Praia a Mare area. Would anyone know the name and be able to give directions to it?
Directions to Per Sempre at Lamezia Terme would also be appreciated. I have been looking at their website, and saw a sofa ( or two, or three ) that looked interesting. Do they actually have a complete showroom, or are things sold from a catalogue - like Argos?
Thanks,
Markel

Persempre furniture store
Lamezia Terme
c/o Green Shopping Center Feroleto Antico - Loc. Garrubbe ( CZ )
88046 Catanzaro - Lamezia Terme
Tel: 0968/754202
Fax: 0968/751108
Summer Opening Hours:
Dal Monday to Friday: 10:00/13:00 - 16:00/20:00
Saturday & Sunday open continuously 10:00 - 20:00
Winter Opening Hours:
Monday: 15:30/19:30
Tuesday to Friday: 10:00/13:00 - 15:30/19:30
Saturday and Sunday open continuously 10:00 - 20:00

The shop is about 20 km from the airport and should take about 25-30 minutes.
Depending on where you are leaving from it is possible to input your start point on the persempre website and ask for directions to the store as well as view a map that you can zoom in and out of.
There's also a photo of the exterior of the shop which looks like it is very large and has room sets that show all the stuff in situ (a bit like Ikea) so, although I haven't visited the store I would imagine it is more like Ikea than Argos!

Re the shop in Praia:
I don't have any direct experience but have found a furniture store in the online yellow pages called mobili2c.
The address is V. Cavaliere Pasquale Longo, 71 and it sells "a wide selection of furniture, antique and modern furniture, 'arte povera' furniture, lighting, bathrooms, living rooms, everything wicker, bed bases, mattresses, domestic appliances, interior decoration."

It would be interesting to know if anyone else has been in this shop and can comment on it.

HTH Lesley

Thank you for the very detailed response, Lesley.
Visiting these stores will give us a couple of nice days out, and may even result in a purchase or two. Thanks again.

Default Furniture/Kitchen Shops

The shop I was enquiring about is actually in the Tortora area, rather than Praia a Mare. It is called NUOVA 2G, and has a good selection of kitchens and furniture. I was quoted €2200 approximately for a 3m run of their most basic kitchen units, inclusive of sink, electric oven, hob, and fridge-freezer. The same 3m run with a very nice door and quality of finish would cost approx €4500. They told me their kitchens are actually made in Scalea, by a company called BBC.
They have a website:
Arredamenti Nuova 2G
which has a location map on it. You basically follow the signs for Praia a Mare, go through the second tunnel on the SS18, and then take the exit marked Tortora. At the roundabout you again head towards Tortora, take the next right, and the shop itself is signposted after that. I hope this information will be of use to all of you wanting to buy kitchens.
Regards,
Markel

Default Kitchens etc

I can recommend Benvenuti mobili in Grisolia Scalo. The did our Kitchen complete with stove etc while we were away and did a great job. Then we thought we would use them for the bedrooms. At first we thought the quote was expensive and then, after looking around, we decuded to go with them as their price included delivery and assembly on site and worked out to be very competitive. Signor Vito was very helpful.

Smile Re Furniture shops

Hi Gail

We have just returned from Scalea after completing on Parco Meridiana - thought you might be interested in our little adventure!

We decided we wanted an iron type bed and went into the Spar/Euronics shop in Diamante. They seemed to have more selection than in Scalea. We found a headboard and footboard being sold together that we liked and looked around for the rest of the bed? We don't speak any italian but the guy in the shop was so helpful and friendly and after much hand gestures and pointing he showed us the middle bit and the mattress. Great now for the delivery. It cost us 35 euros and we arranged for it to be delivered the next day (Saturday 5th) at 10 o clock, the people in the shop knew where La Bussola was but couldn't understand where we were. How we arranged it we are not sure but we had to meet the delivery man in a beige van at the bottom of the hill by the Police Stradli (not sure if that's how you spell it). the next day. Saturday morning came and we were quite anxious as to what would turn up and also whether the guy would be there. We got to the bottom of the hill at about 9.45 ish and wondered how long we would have to wait there but no the guy was there followed us up the hill and even helped Steve take it upstairs. Wow wouldn't get that service in England, last time we had a delivery from Argos they wouldn't even tell us morning or afternoon!

We would definitely use this shop again for rest of furniture. Hope this is of some help?

Hev & Steve
