Hi all,

Please use this thread to describe in detail either the weather in the Cedro Riviera or where ever you are. I am enjoying one of those sunny winter days that follow weeks of storms...it's an astounding 50 F (10C) in the shade. The cats are lazing in the sun watching the red-wings at the bird feeder with limited interest. I'm going for a jog...what's it like in Italia today?

Hi Di,
We have been out and about today so I haven't any temperature readings I can quote you I'm afraid (Brian's meterological stuff is on our southernmost balcony and he loves to quote temperatures usually but obviously he can't when we aren't at home).
This morning we set off for San Nicola Arcella about 9.50am and it was clear and sunny.
It stayed bright and clear all day.
However, the forecast for the next few days is for pretty cool mornings and then nice daytime temperatures.
I'll endeavour to get Mr Meteo (aka il mio marito) to give me some info to post over the weekend 8-))

Best wishes, Lesley

Question

Do you think we could get that nice man with the webcam at Jamie’s in Diamante (see the weather link in Diamante in case you are wondering) to replace the Jamae sign he’s got in the balcony with a nice big barometer attached to the railing showing the local temperature?

It could say Jamae in big letters on top ensuring that we never stop looking at his advert.

PatMc

PS. It’s 0° C in London at the moment with a promise of a 6° C high and -3° C low tomorrow 16 Feb.

This morning (Saturday) it is cold and very windy here in Scalea. The temperature is reading
8 degrees in my garden, but with the wind chill it feels alot colder. The sun is shining with not a cloud in the sky, so it there was no wind it would be fanstatic.

Have a good weekend
Melanie

Yep!
Morning newspaper was forecasting min 21 and max 26 for today and 21-29 for tomorrow, with no figures for humidity but, I don't believe it for one minute. Feels a whole lot hotter. Can't say exactly because I don't keep measuring tools: too scared to take the readings on days like this!

ciao a tutti

Gian

Default Amazing!

This morning we had a layer of ice which had formed overnight on a bucket that catches the drips from a leaky gutter!
3.9 degrees outside according to the thermometer at about 10am - never known it as cold as that!
The sun has now raised the ambient temperature to 12.3 degrees at 3pm.
It's lovely and sunny though..........wierd!

We had watched the weather forecast last night when it was predicting -1 but didn't believe it would happen - obviously it did!

Ciao a tutti;

glorious day in Durban today: 31 Centigrades but windy. So, no humidity and it's been reasonably comfortable.

ciao

Hi again,

Thanks for all the posts. Lesley, ice???? I'm surprised. I have been mentally planting all my pots at the steps and on the terrace in S. Domenica T. and did not worry about freezing during this exercise. So Pat, did you get your big thermometer at Diamante yet, I'm waiting for it. Elgian, all I can say is I'm sure glad you have the wind but then again 30 degrees would feel great on these bones right now.

The dawn is still breaking here but it's breaking clear and calm and -5 but should get to 10 again today. (22 and 50F).

Layer of Ice! In Scalea!! Can hardly believe it. Here in London today it’s bright and sunny, but cold. We had ground frost last night, but no ice!

Had an email from a friend on a cruse around New Zealand - it’s cool, wet, stormy and very overcast and they may not be able to make port at Duniden. And it’s supposed to be mid-summer down there.

Something is rotten in the state of this world’s weather!

Well we were very surprised by the ice (first time we have seen anything like it here.)
No ground frost though. (Could someone explain why we would have one without the other?)
I do know that there was snow in Scalea a few years ago but it was the first time in about 50 years so was quite a spectacle.
Yes, there is certainly something funny happening with climate change - both here and elsewhere!
(You should have seen our neighbour, Vincenzo, on his tractor this morning - he looked as though he was dressed for an expedition to the North pole....8-) )

No, Di. No barometer/thermometer yet. But if you look in (on the Diamante site) you can see it looks pretty chilly down in Diamante at the moment, though at least the sun is shinning.

Default weather

I believe that global climate change is occuring, but don't know whether we are truly seeing climate change this year or just "normal" cycles of weather patterns. Icing in Belvedere doesn't sound like a warming trend! Although our rain/snow was late this year, it has now become "normal" in temps and around 175% of normal in snowpack on the mountain (4.8 meters). When we first moved here 18 years ago, January temps between -18 to -25 C were the norm, but not anymore. Still cold enough to freeze and crack my brass hose faucets as I discovered yesterday. But Hey, spring is in the air. Last week at a ski area, I was out suffering in -18 c wind chill temps.....by this afternoon I will venture out in a shirt only at about 13 c. Sunshine is a gift that brings a smile eh?! dj

Maybe that cold snap will move along. We heard that Athens even got a dusting of snow yesterday. The forecast we got for Scalea was 13 C by Wednesday. Those there know the real truth. doug

Hi Annette,
If you were bringing swimming gear to go for a dip in the sea I think that might be a bit premature 8-))
Mind you, Roy was tempted at Xmas apparently....
The TV forecast is for a return to normal from Wednesday onwards, you will be pleased to hear!
We are off to Tropea on Wednesday for a couple of days but would hope to catch you whilst you are over once we get back.
And Di & Doug - as you are veterans of Tropea - any recommendations for things to do, places to see?
Maybe you could start a new thread with any useful info?

There was a notice displayed outside but I couldnt read it.I really enjoyed it the night I was there, Both the food and the company was great.Annette

It is open all year, Annette - we have been there every month of the year.
Their day of the week for closing is Tuesday.
I wonder if you were just unlucky and they had gone off on annual holidays at the time you were over?
If you want to give us a nod we'd be happy to meet you there, its one of our favourites.

Default Tropea

Hi Lesley:

Where are you staying in Tropea? I am looking for a hotel for this summer - plan on visiting the area for a few days in July.

Have a great time!

Hi Lesley, I'm afraid we have no specific recommendations for hotels or even the names of restaurants. We stayed in the middle of centro storico in a rented flat and did not focus on other hotels. There are tons of bars and ristorantes and all within reasonable walking distance, but dunno if they'll all be open in winter. There are some hotels on the beach below town that should have availability this time of year....probably try some web searches. The walk up to centro storico from below is not for the meek, but ok if you pace yourselves. Pretend you're gazing at a boat in the harbour while catching your breath! I would guess that parking is not an issue this time of year 'tho, so you could drive up and down the hill. This might work, I think we walked by Hotel La Porta del Mare going to the beach. We enjoyed the entire town. The main piazza near post office is good people watching in the morning when everyone heads to school or work.

Agenzia di viaggi in Calabria, Tour Operator in Calabria Agenzia viaggi a Tropea - Valentour.*-*Agenzia di viaggi in Calabria, Tour Operator in Calabria Agenzia viaggi a Tropea - Valentour. sorry, I guess I don't know how to post a web link here.

Have fun, it's a nice little town not as busy as Scalea. Pizzo just north is interesting. Capo Vaticano, just south, cannot be missed on a clear day. It reminds us of California or something with large single homes in the hills above the beach. doug
