Default Site Members in Scalea Diary

Hi,
We just got back from buying a property in Scalea (Tony was great by the way) and it occured to us that it would be great if we all new when other site members were going to be over.

We did meet Joanne and and Family and another couple from the South as well as a couple from Preston (apologies for lack of names but I have a terrible memory for names) but only because we bumped into them when we were with Tony or bumped into Tony when he was with them.

We thought that if there was an electronic diary of some sort it would offer the opportunity to meet up as opposed to relying on spotting a posting.

Something like a Yahoo Shared Diary would do the trick but I am sure David will have an E Solution.

It was great to meet up with those mentioned above when we were over and we enjoyed talking and shareing each others experiences of the area and enthusiasm and as I say without the accidental meetings it wouldnt have been possible or have been quite the same.

Hi John,

Yep - great idea!
David did have a calendar on the forum but when I was trying to post some festa dates it wasn't working too well and when I asked him about it he said he was thinking of giving up on it.
Do you know how to set up a Yahoo shared diary - or could you post here to tell everyone how to get involved in sharing their diary ??
Think David and Mel are somewhat busy organising their big move 8-)

It's certainly getting busy with us all popping to Scalea whenever possible and it would be great to be able to see who is there at any one time and be able to meet up,
Best wishes, Lesley & Brian

Hi John
Glad to here you got home OK - I assume the sale went through without any problems?
Great idea about the diary - when are you planning to go out next?

Hi JP,

Glad to hear about your experiences in Scalea. We are coming over in April and are hoping to find an apartment. We are dealing with Scalea Properties and have had a lot of good feedback about them.

Did it take you long to find an apartment and how many trips did you have to make before it was finalised?

Hope we may meet you there sometime.

Cheers,

Alan & Shirley.

Dear Alan and Shirley,
We have just completed on an apartment in Scalea's Centro Storico. We did two trips - a six day visit in Nov with 3 days property viewing, and a 4 day visit in Jan to sign. All was arranged with Tony.
We saw about 15 properties mostly in the town-the one that we decided on was the first one that we viewed.
Tony is wonderful,he will collect you each day and take you to the agents and do any neccessary translating.
Centre Scalea is very built up especially near to the station and depending on your budget the outside of the apartments do need a lick of paint. Petrosa is very quiet outside the main holiday season -great sea views though About 20mins walk from the centre.
We are there at the end of April ,Hope to see you before you leave
Best wishes
Carol and John

Hi Joanne,
Apartment went well without any major hitches. They smiled we grinned, bankers drafts were inspected, Tony interpreted a few jokes about the Euro and Tony Blair and then the keys were handsed over and we sat there wondering what we had done.

That being said we are really pleased and looking forward to going back.

Not sure when but it depends when we can start our bits of work with the builder etc.

Trust you are still smiling as you were beaming in the Kitchen place.

In answer to Alan & Shirley Joanne went over to Italy a few times and we went just the once for 3 days of viewing, found a place we liked and then went back this last week and finalised the deal.

Tony will look after you if you are dealing with Scalea Property and is invaluable with his local knowledge and contacts. The Italian language he has at his finger ytips also is invaluable so all the best with your adventure.

Hopeful;ly if we get a duiary sdorted out we'll all meet at different points in the near future.

All the best

JP

Here is a link to a diary I set up on Yahoo just as a test.

I don't want to interfere with this website as it works really well so maybe if this idea is a good one David can create a link to the callender and take it over to be administrated as part of the site or perhaps create a new one just for the site.

Anyway here is the link just to see if anyone thinks it would work?

Hi Carol & John,

Great to read your comments. We were a bit worried about the legal side of things but it seems Tony takes care of everything.

Hope we are lucky on our first visit.

Maybe see you in April.

Thanks again,

Alan & Shirley

Wow! JP, you are a clever sausage.

Great link. Poor David will be feeling redundant. How do we all feel about adding the saints days and festivals (assuming that all our information is correct)?

Jax.

Hi JP,

Tried calendar but will not allow you to edit it. I think it is probable just me not doing it properly.

Let me know if it works OK.

Dear Alan and Shirley,
The legal side was almost too easy-we kept thinking something would go wrong. It was strange walking into the apartment once we had signed-what made it even stranger so that the vendor had left everything as though he had just popped out for the day- plates, saucepans, even the bed was made.
We worried most how to transfer money to Italy in time for the signing. In the end the vendor wanted Bankers Drafts (the estate agent had to reassure the vendor that LLoyds TSB was actually a bank) and the notary wanted paymemt in cash
Have a wonderful time -it's very exciting and you won't regret it

Hi Shirley,

You wont be able to edit the calender as with this particular one you will need a yahoo ID and then the administrator of the calender will add that ID to the allowed list and you can then edit as needed.

Hopefully if others think its a good idea David will take it on or, something like it, and can adminsitrate it so that it runs smoothly and benefit all of us on the info site who want to meet up.

Hi Jax,

Yahoo gave me the option to add holidays so I added UK, Italy and US Holidays but pleasse bear in mind the calender is "only a test" just to see if it would work OK.

Hi all,

We are the couple from Preston that met John and Elaine when they had just signed for there apartment on monday, our names are Laura and Paul and we too have now joined the ranks of lovers of
Scalea, We have just arrived home today after 4 days of viewing and have found a place that ticks all the boxes ( well sort of) We are now planning a return trip as we are going back at the begining of April to sign for the property and shop for all our building materials, the wonderful Silvio is redeveloping our chosen house as at the moment is a shell - no windows, floors, kitchen or bathroom, well shall we say it hasnt anything !! the only thing done is the roof terrace, the view is worth the price alone.

feeling as bemused as John and Elaine at the moment but it is all good.

One final word about Tony - Top man- especially for a Man Utd fan, couldnt do enough for us.

Buono Notte

Paul And Laura

Hi There,

WE have contacted Tony and we are not going back now til the end of April, really cant wait and are so looking forward to going back and seeing the town a little busier and a little warmer hopefully.

so unfortunately we wil not be able to meet up, we would love to meet you if we are ever in Scalea at the same time though , whereabouts is your place if you dont mind us asking?

We would also definitely love to meet up with anyone else that is out in Scalea when we are there for a drink or two and to share a few tales, being novices to the area and all

Cheers

Paul and Laura.

Hi Paul and Laura,

We are going to Scalea for the first time on the 23rd April for a viewing trip.

Whereabouts is the property you are buying? Is it near the centre?

Hope all goes well for you and maybe we will see you there sometime.

Cheers,

Alan & Shirley

Hi there Alan and Shirley,

You'll love it if youve not been before, there is so many different types of property to choose from, we have bought in the centro Storico , its a shell though and will take about twelve months to do but it will be so worth it, it has a roof terrace that has views of the whole town, the sea and the mountains , dont think we will ever be in the house to be honest.

Good luck in your hunting.

Paul and Laura.
