Default Looks like we will be next!

Glad to see a few mentions to this lovely village. Came over in September 07 and with the help and infinite patience of Tony, settled on a house somewhere in the village on the hill. Not sure if we could find it again but will be back Dec 5 -8 in Scalea to do some admin towards completion.

Since these winding roads don't do a lot for my nervous system I shall be looking to buy a bicycle for the times I am here without Jerry to do the driving!

We met some of the members at the Saturday night food and drink fest at Antonios in Sept and hope to catch up with any 'locals' either in Dec or when we come again for a week in late Jan 08. Found it best to book well in advance as prices do seem steep around popular holiday times.

From a mild if rainy London

Ciao

Helena

Glad to hear it Helena and Jerry. I have heard there is also a bus. Actually, we have met the bus on the road twice. Seems to be in the morning. If anyone else remembers, let us know. I have lost count of the other besides us in SD Talau. There are at least four other couples, I think. I know the names only of Cindy and Brian as we ate dinner with them one night in September. Hope to see you there....don't know when.

Default Congratulations on your apartment purchase!

Just getting the hang of the Forum and sending emails so apologies if you hear more than once!
Our house is off the top square as well with lovely ocean views so sounds like we will be neighbours.

Have answered privately also as will have more information on the house after our trip this week.

Looking forward to ...

Helena

Default It must be official as the post box is by the door!

We completed on Friday 25th Jan and as our vendor signed his name in very upright and laborious script the Notary said that he had sold him the property in 1970! It was quite an emotional moment and some tears were shed (not mine, unless it was at the amount of tax we had to pay!).

However we are in and work is planned and we really had a great week buying, getting wood delivered, basking in the sun, getting dried out by the wind and meeting, greeting and eating. We feel very welcome and the help and kindness was overwhelming ... we mention no names, you all know who you are.

Thanks and hope to see you all in March or April 08.

Helena
PS Anybody plannning to visit it's 91 steps from the square by the Church .... and think twice before driving your car into some of the lanes from the bottom of the hill near the hardware shop ... we had to get a young lad to back the car out or we would still be there!

Hi Helena & Jerry,
Just found your post here!
Congratulations 8-))
I loved your little story about your experience at the notary.
Pleased you have discovered just how great it is here 8-)).
I was ever so pleased that we came across you both near "our" castle in Belvedere. As we are a little out of the way we might not otherwise have caught up with you.
I realise a certain couple (who shall also remain nameless) probably warned you off accepting my invitation to lunch.
Last time they came I served up wallpaper paste soup (also known as lentil and bacon) and they haven't been back since......
But you did miss a treat as it was lasagne that day - and it turned out to be pretty tasty!
See you soon, Lesley & Brian

Default Tiles & Things

Dear Lesley and Brian

For some reason I keep 'violating' rules and my emails disapper without trace ... so here goes again. Lesley ask Rita to show you through the house if you are in the area as I would have you to miss the fern-green and patterned bathroom tiles in particular and they will be replaced by Easter when we return. I could send you a pix to whet your appetite if you can't bear to wait!

Re your kind lunch invite; no, we weren't warned off at all but our schedule was tight and we even kept Tony waiting 30 mns which is a nice turnaround. These days when making appts I ask if it's 'italian or english time' ...

Look forward to seeing you both in late March/April. Loved Brian's Ikea stories and hoped you all celebrated royally on Sunday night.

Helena & Jerry

I've found that sometimes happens when I have too many spaces. If you backpedal, copy what you wrote and repaste it that sometimes works.

I will do just that. We are all off out for a girlie day tomorrow, looking for dress fabric for Monica's wedding outfit. Hoping to make it a regular men-free jaunt so I should see Rita often 8-)

LOL! Good one 8-)

We had a good night on Sunday. I even baked a cake (but so did Lucia) so what with yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes with Mel & Dave at lunchtime then pizza and 2 lots of cake for dinner my diet has gone out of the window somewhat!
See you soon, Lesley & Brian
