Bar La Playa Sad News

It is with great sadness that I report that the owner of Bar la Playa, Sergio Barbato, has been killed in a shooting accident in Russia whilst on a hunting holiday, aged 44.
And also his son, Riccardo, only 14 years old, was involved in a fatal road traffic accident on Sunday in Scalea.
The details are still somewhat sketchy but I believe that Billy & Sheila may have happened upon the car accident shortly after it occurred.
The joint funeral is to be held in the church of San Giuseppe Lavoratore in the centre of Scalea on Friday at 10am.

It seems like an enormous tragedy for a family who have always been the most friendly and welcoming to us and our thoughts are with them at this time, especially Marilena who has lost both her husband and her son within a few days of each other.

As of yesterday La Playa has reopened.

My goodness.... good timing....we were heading for San Nicola on Friday and noticed Bar La Playa was open when we passed by on the way over so we called in on the way back.
Didn't realise it was the first day that it had re-opened....
