Default Church like a cave built into the rocks

Hi all,
We have been told that there is a fabulous church in Praia that is like a cave built into the rocks
(thanks Mel & Paul and Sue & Steve).
We haven't visited it yet but the verdict is that it is unmissable so we will be taking a trip along there soon.
I believe it can be found via a sign from the main street and you need to climb some steps but that is all I can remember about directions to it.
If anyone could clarify how to find it, or if you know what it is called, please let us know!
Cheers, Lesley & Brian

Yes Lesley it is well worth a visit - it left Damien speechless which doesn't happen very often!! If you follow the signs off the main street there is a car park at the bottom, and you can walk up from there. It isn't too much of a climb if you are reasonably fit (and haven't opened Brian's 3 litres the day before - lesley!)

hi lesley
we found this church but accessed it via san nicola arcella beach..to the right of the beach ,as you look out to sea, is a set of steps that take you over to the wee coves and arches( a bit of a hairy climb in places but sarah managed it and she's 5 !!)then veer off to the left hand cove , through a tunnel and across the beach on the other side and there it is..we ambled along this route and just stumbled on it by chance.we also tried to carry on over the next wee hill to praia beach but there was a locked gate preventing us going any further..also the alter was sealed up even though you could go into the cave...
ciao a presto

Hi

That doesn't sound like the same place that we visited - if you are in Praia a Mare along the main street with all the shops and bars in it you can see a Church like building actually in the side of the mountain behind the buildings, the cave is actually to the side of this - you can't see the cave we didn't know it was there we just climbed up to see what we thought was a church built on the side of the mountain and were surprised to find the cave when we got there.

The steps are purpose built and not to much of an effort if you are reasonable fit.

We will have to try and find the place you visited.

Sue
