Internet connection

Has any one connected to the internet other than through a standard dial up modem in the area. If so I'd like to know how and with which company. :?

I have connected with a wireless card modem (Wind) and also with a bluetooth mobile (Vodafone).
We are unable to get broadband where we are so I am on a dial up modem here(which feels like swimming through treacle....).

Was thinking of trying ISDN but am not sure there is much of an advantage (apart from being able to use the phone whilst I am online) and satellite broadband still needs a dial-up connection for the upline request I understand.

I believe David is broadband connected in Scalea and I think that is with Telecom Italia.

I am also connected to the net via Telecom Italia. The service is now quite acceptably fast but is more expensive (like for like) to the UK. Having said that I now pay €30 monthly including phone rental if their latest offer holds true.

We resolved our problem with a USB modem using a Wind pay as you go contract. Costs 20 euros per month but only for the months you need. Speed is 115k cf dial up of 56K so not that quick but when the mobile signal is there it is not too bad for email or basic surfing.

Modem cost 99E including the SIM card

Well we have very recently become broadband enabled-woohoo!!
Didnt for a moment think we would get broadband as we are quite a way up a hill and quite a way from town but I am delighted.
Not sure I have the published speeds yet but the fact I am wireless again and so don't have trailing wires - also we can use the phone and be online at the same time - I'm well pleased.
So, message is, don't give up hope & keep checking the coverage for your area.
