? anyone read the new Roberto Saviano book

The one called Gamorrah about the Camorra which everyone is talking about both in UK and Italy. It seems he's become a sort of Italian Salmon Rushdie - so have ordered it partly in the way that I bought The Satanic Verses (and never read it) i.e. no-one should be terrorised for writing a book - but think I will read this one. Anyway, has anyone?

This has now been made into a film and has been very well received (it won the Grand Jury prize at the Cannes film festival and was nominated for a Golden Palm).
I believe it is currently showing as part of the London Film Festival.

Hi Margaret

I have just finished the book. Well it certainly opens your eyes to certain aspects of Neapolitan life. There were aspects of it that beggared belief. I just wonder how much impact it has on the general population. I know the last time we went shopping, for clothes in Naples, our friends ended up taking us to some gated lock ups in the basements of some high rise blocks of flats. There we found large rooms filled with racks of designer clothes. A bit daunting but, it seems, it is part of their way of life.
