I was woundering if any of you who have apartments in Scalea had problems lately to pay the Enel bill on line.
I have been paying my italian electric bill on line for 2 years now with my credit card with out any problems. Except this last bill I cant manage to pay it keeps coming up transaction failed! Its driving me mad as it has been a great service. I coming to Scalea on the 11 Jan. Do you know if there is a Enel office in town? I cant do the phone thing as my italian isnt good enough. Any Ideas?
Mary

Yes I have had problems paying my last Enel bill online (although have paid this way for the past two years also).
And I have also heard of other folk who are in the same boat.
There is an Enel service point in the Post Office at Scalea if you have a bit of Italian and I have always found them very helpful.
Obviously you can pay your Enel bill at the Post Office but you can also pay at a tabacchi that sells lottery tickets (and at some service stations) as they use their little online computer to accept payments.

Hope this helps

Thanks Lesley. I will be able to pay it at the post office this time but I worry for the future as I only visit Italy 2 or 3 times a year. Hopefully they will get it working again, I will email them.
By the way do you know if there is any snow on the mountains in Lauria?

Couldn't say for certain about the snow, Mary but I doubt it.
The last time we were discussing snow it was very nippy here and also there was snow on the hills behind us but that has all gone now and the weather lately has been very warm (29 degrees in the sun in the afternoon on our south-facing balcony! and about 16 in the shade).
The forecast is for warmer rather than colder weather so I guess you are more likely to get snow over there than here!

While I remember reading somewhere on this forum that there is no "Standing Charge" for electricity, can anybody tell me if there is a "set- up" or "arrangement" fee charged when opening an account for electricity.
Thanks, MarKel

We paid approx. 200 euro to transfer the electricity over and set it up in our name.

Yes there is a set up fee when you first sign up for electricity so your first bill will reflect this. Also there is a standing charge. For a two month period without using any electricity your bill will be just short of 15 euros for a non-resident account.
