Default Italian Newspaper with some English articles

Corriere della Sera, Italy's most prominent newspaper - For those who do not read Italian this is a link to a series of articles written in English. They are a few days old but better than nothing. A good place to start for up-to-date information about Italy in English. (Daily except Sunday) http://www.corriere.it/english

And for everyone who is learning the lingo, how about reading the newspaper online in Italian to help with vocabulary 8-))

Ciao Lesley
Just to say thankyou for all the info, don't ever stop. It's great having this connection, especially when i'm sat stressed to death at my desk and i can just go on the website for the latest goings on "at home" the only down side is that it makes me want to be there NOW lol. Once again Grazie Mille. Speak soon.

I'm trying to encourage some of the other full-timers to contribute too (getting a bit sick of my own voice!!).
Will try to call you later (sorry didn't catch you last night - you were obviously out gallivanting!)

Yes I have found turkey! Just after your last message, in the Spar at Diamante.
It was a little furtive but I even took a picture with my phone for you! (had to wait until the Italians moved away from the meat counter as that would have confirmed without doubt that I am a completely mad English woman!).
I haven't quite worked out how to transfer the photo yet from my phone to here so have been keeping quiet about it for the moment.........
And I am such a sad soul that I also have a photo of brussel spouts taken on the same occasion - someone save me from myself please.....

Default Completely scraping the barrel now....

Well this has got to be the saddest post in the whole wide world but here we go...
Sprouts
http://www.scalea.info/forum/album_pic.php?pic_id=458
(Spotted in Spar Diamante end of October 2007)
Turkey
http://www.scalea.info/forum/album_pic.php?pic_id=461
(Spotted the same day as the sprouts)
Admittedly this is only a turkey thigh but, hey, they must sell the rest of it as well! But I reckon if you found the rest of this bird and put it together then there is no way it would fit in your oven-believe me!)

From the Amadori website I have also gleaned that they distinguish between male and female turkey parts (why should that be relevant, do you think?) and they have this photo in their "available" items and it sure looks like whole turkeys to me...
http://www.scalea.info/forum/album_pic.php?pic_id=462

As well as these:
http://www.scalea.info/forum/album_pic.php?pic_id=459
(Turkey crown - which I like as there isn't any waste and a lot easier to wrestle with as the legs aren't poking out and singeing and bursting into flames)

Melanie would like this as it doesn't look too much like it could get up and fly away (private joke but I will tell you all some time about the night I had to cut her chicken up on her plate so it looked less like ...a chicken)

But she definitely wouldn't be able to cope with this.....

Ok so that has completely scattered anyone who was thinking of joining the Lesley fan club so I'm off to bed now!
Night all 8-))

I guess the female turkey is probably a lot more tender and sweeter than the male one !!!

Default Turkeys

You guys are cracking me up. Pretty foul pictures Lesley! Thank goodness you didn't include close-ups of the male/female "parts". I know I have read that they raise turkeys in Italy, but without immediate access to the local SPA, I cannot see what is there. We Americans eat tons of turkey each year, but of course, the Thanksgiving turkey is most important..when we give thanks for being away from oppressive English rule!!

We'll be there the week after Thanksgiving (25 Nov - 1 Dec) and would gladly bring a few frozen turkeys or turkey breasts to those needing one badly. We can pass them out at the Continental Hotel. (we actually do pass-out turkeys to families in need here each year). Seems the UK is probably closer tho' if you want "free range" birds that have not been frozen.

Well, once there in our SD Talao apartment, I can see we'll have to throw an American thanksgiving party complete with heavy foods and American football on the television in the background -- all enough to make you fall asleep by 1600 hrs. Have you folks ever tried a Virginia ham??? A little more salty than prosciutto, but great. Combinations of turkey and ham work.! Regards, doug

Hope we'r there when you are Doug that sounds great...we love a good party. The heavy food sounds good and the Virginia ham sounds gorgeous and well worth a try (as long as it doesn't look like it was once alive) BUT American Football???? just kiddin i'm sure it's great if you have some idea of what's going on.
Lesley..after that outstanding post i'm afraid the fan club will only be getting bigger.

Another piece of useless information for all you turkey fans. On the last visit I was round all the butchers etc trying to track down some osso buco (in vain,) at the other supermarket in Scalea (Not Spar) the butcher told me that they had osso buco di tacchino!! Yuk! Didn't quite do it for me.
