Default First visit to Scalea

Hi, we are visiting Scalea for the first time at the end of September, looking for a property to buy. Can anyone recommend any restaurants to try while we are there, also haven't booked a hotel yet so any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Cathy

You won't be short of good resturants in Scalea they are everywhere

www.venere.com is good hotels - we stayed at the Seabreeze which was excellent and we have been back there to eat since but it is a bit out of the centre so won't be much good if you don't have a car.

Have a great time

Sue

Thanks Sue, I have seen The Seabreeze on line but it is great to get a personal recommendation from someone who has stayed there - thanks!

Can't wait to try the restaurants - my only concern is that 5 days won't be long enough to try them all!!

Hi Again

They were really welcoming at the Seabreeze and the rooms have all recently been done up so they are very nice. They don't speak much English and our Italian is not brilliant but we got by.

I'm sure you will return to Scalea so don't worry about not getting around many of the restaurants - We love it there can't wait to get out there and hate it when we have to leave.

Sue

Hi Cathy

We have stayed in two hotels in Scalea,( both of which were good) the Hotel Continental which is by the station, and Hotel Talao on the sea front. As the weather should still be very good at the end of Sept I would recommend that you try the Hotel Talao. They have a web site on which its easy to book, they also speak good English. They have a private beach & pool
You will find a picture of both Hotels in the photo gallery.
As regards eating there are numerous places but "Silver" just off the main coast road is very good, and have an English copy of their menu.
Wish you all the very best, Hope you fall in love with the area as have all my family
Best wishes John

PS Cathy

Sorry should have said that Cool is 100% right to advise you to consult with David & Tony at Scalea Property Services, they will give you honest sound advice.
When you are in Scalea, try to get out and do plenty of legwork to get a feel for the town, there is a a lot hidden from obvious view.
Please do not be afraid to ask questions, all the agents we dealt with were happy to help, and use this Forum, everything has been covered here at some stage.

Best wishes again
John

Thanks everyone for all your tips and advice, we are indeed meeting with David and Tony. Tony is showing us around some properties. I have been reading lots of threads on this forum and gather that there may be quite a few properties to see that aren't listed on their website so I am keeping my fingers crossed that we find something!! We can't wait to explore Scalea and the surrounding area, we've hired a car so we're hoping to get a good feel for the area while we're over. Also looking forward to trying as many restaurants as possible - thanks for letting us know about "Silver" and the hotels

Hi Cathy, If you're planning to return, you're always welcome to stay in B&B La Sirenetta in Diamante It's a short drive from Scalea. The B&B was refurbished in 2006 and has three double rooms. Each room is large and comfortable with double bed + private bathroom. The rooms are nicely furnished, light and airy. One room sleeps 4 and Cot is available at no extra charge. Furthermore, there is use of the kitchen. Have a look at our website or email us.
