Fires in Southern Italy

Dear All,

I have been reading on the Rainews24 Website for some time about the fires in Southern Italy. But only now have they begun to mentioned anywhere that is even remotely near Scalea: Today, Sunday 26th August, they say:

In Calabria i centri colpiti dal fuoco sono sei: Tortora, Lago, Papasidero, Grisolia e Lumbro nel cosentino e Albi nel catanzarese. Due gli incendi in Basilicata a Castelluccio superiore e a Maratea. Anche in Puglia le fiamme interessano due centri del foggiano: Vieste e Monte Sant'Angelo. Nel Lazio, e' in corso un incendio in provincia di Latina a SS Cosma e Damiano.

Papasidero is about 15km inland, to the East, and Grisolia is about 10km South.

Is there anybody currently in Scalea who can give us an update?

hi, we were in scalea from 2nd until the 19th august, there was fires about the area, nothing to worry a bout though , little fires in grassy areas, but were soon put out,hope this puts your mind at rest 8)

Hi Pat just back from Scalea, plenty of fires up in the hills planes going non stop during the day.They even cut the water for a time.The national park was damaged some what but nothing to worry about really, under control. xx Fifi

There was quite a large fire in the Maierá area a few nights ago.

Heard about the fires and was concerned when I heard the nation park mentioned as our place backs onto the park near Santa Maria ....Any news would be great.. Thanks Cool :?
