Default Renovations

If this doesn't get posted, I'm giving up!! We arrive in Scalea on 3rd October in the hope of renovating the bathroom. Can anyone recommend plumber, painter, tiler and where I could go to buy bathroom fittings etc.

Hi Lynn,

You could try www.benvenutomobili.it
they did an excellent job on a fitted kitchen at our place, they have a good website too.
Good luck!

I forgot to ask you if you speak Italian. If not, was it easy to get your ideas across. Did they measure up, give you ideas and install?

Thanks,

Lynn

Hi Lyn,

I have the number of a plumber who really helped us out in a fix, but he is from the Diamante area and I don't know if he would come to Scalea (they tend to stick to their own patches!) so if you have no luck, I'll let you have his number - but he doesn't speak a word of English I'm afraid.

Another option maybe to ask Tony or David, they may be able to put you in touch with someone, although it is always difficult to recommend people, it's all a bit of a lottery - I suppose it's all part of the great Italian adventure!
Best of luck though.

There's a bathroom showroom on the SS18 just past Santa Maria Del Cedro called Crusco.
Ive never been in but it looks fabulous from the outside with large displays in the windows.
I would imagine that most of the stuff on display would be for order though (and I don't think it will inexpensive! They are listed as stockists on this website which is great for ideas etc but promotes upmarket bathroom fittings http://www.bagnoidea.com/ - they have an English version too).
Similarly there is a showroom in Cirella called Greco
http://www.francescogreco.com/start.htm
and another in Belvedere also called Greco - could be the same family? (Upstairs in Belvedere are lots of bathroom displays and as they are also builders they probably stock lots of bathrooms for their own ongoing use so "might" have take-away bathrooms)
In Scalea there are a number of builders merchants that sell bits and pieces for bathrooms etc but I don't know their names.
The nearest DIY type store that we have come across is Bricofer in Fuscaldo
http://www.bricofer.it
Last time we were in there they had a very small selection of bathrooms that I would assume were "off the shelf".
Hope this helps, Lesley

Default Plumber

Just back from Scalea on Sunday. Our neighbour Franco is a plumber and he fitted a beautiful new bathroom for us. He took us to Crusco to pick the fittings and tiles and he did all the work after we left in March and it was all completed when we returned in May. He also brought in a tiler and electrician for the other work and their work was excellent. They seem to take pride in finishing things off to perfection. I can post his telephone number but you would have to get Tony or David to translate as he speaks no English. Crusco might be a bit more expensive than the likes of B & Q etc. but their tiles and fittings are gorgeous.
