Default air con

Hi all,
Am very concerned about the weather. I'm travelling down in two weeks time and we've no air conditioning in the apartment. I was just wondering what kinds of units others had or what would be recommended. We're not getting in until Sat. nite so it'll probably be Monday before we get to the shops!!!

Default Weather in Scalea

Hi Cara,
We got back on the 18th June, when it was just starting to "hot up" and missed the real heatwave of 48C (Phew!) However, we were in an attic room without air conditioning, which proved to be uncomfortable at night, even with two fans going, so you're wise to prepare for this now.
However, I found this website, which will help you to keep track of the weather situation - other than that, those who are actually there can give you an update on this, as well as the types of air conditioning units available:

http://magazine.enel.it/meteo/indexC...omune=IT078138

Hope this helps.
Ciao,
Frances.

Hi

If you are thinking of having a/c installed I believe David knows of someone who is giving a good price on that at the moment - the freestanding units we looked at were around the 350 + euro price but I don't think they heat as well which would be an advantage, they have a reasonable selection in the Euronics centre above Interspar.

Let us know if you find any good deals anywhere cos we are looking to buy some sort of a/c for our apartment.

Have a great holiday

Sue

Seems like the heatwave has passed.
Thermometer is clocking 30 degrees rather than 40 plus!

Just perfect

Hi Cara dont worry to much about the air con.we thought the same too when we were going over for the first time they sell mobile air cons. in the supermarket. The only problem with heat was if it was humid at night, nothing a couple of fans didnt sort.Is it your first time heading over for a summer holiday? (great excitmemt)Cant belive the price of the flights this year from Dublin.Wish to God Ryanair would take a slot there.2 years ago they were so cheap for June and July.Have a great tripxxFifi

Thanks for all the replies, I'll check with David as well about this guy he knows, I'll definately be getting a few fans anyway.
Fifi, we're travelling from Cork to Rome direct, staying over night and travelling down by train then. We got a good enough deal but booked it back in May. We're heading back via Lamezia/London to Cork. All in all I think it worked out about 150 euro pp. We were in Scalea last June and the heat nearly killed me, there was no air conditioning anywhere, even in the hotel we booked!!! Still waiting on Michael O'Leary to organise Dublin to Lamezia!!!! It would be great even for long weekends.

We got a very good floor standing fan from Interspa -from the supermarket part - we were a bit sceptical because it was very cheap but it did the job just fine.

Have a great trip

Hi,

It's Di, the weather freak. Right now I live at 2000 ft.(oops forgot--609 Meters) and it cools off each and every night regardless of day temp. Sounds like Scalea is more humid and nights are not cool in the heat of the summer. This leads me to ask where everyone lives in relation to the sea---what elevation are y'all at? What is the elevation of Orosmorso, for example and is it cooler at night or is it hotter due to distance from the sea? What is the elevation in the hills above Scalea?

Hi all
I hope to get Air Con in our appartment next year in time for the summer. However just a thought to remember !! our appartment has a 3kw (3000watts) standard supply, I am told some have less!! a uk supply would have a potential of about 21kw (21000w)
It is very very likely that our electricity supply will need to be upgraded & I will need to check with Enel if this is possible and at what cost?
No point in getting a 6.5kw unit when we have a 3kw supply!! also energy efficiency/management will have a big part to play. We now have a gas cooker, the hot water is on a timer & I have changed most of our 50w spot lights to energy efficient ones. Most of the cheaper Air Con units are C or D rated and
gobble up power so I am looking to get a AA unit not because I am worried about the running costs, but the size of supply needed.
Best Wishes John & Family
