Post Re: Activity on this website.

Hi,
I've noticed the spammers have been quite active but these are very quickly removed once reported. I guess everyone else is "hunkering down" for the coming winter months!
It would be nice to know if anyone is thinking of visiting Calabria during the winter (despite the current mild weather, we have been told a "big chill" is imminent in the UK). Ryanair are meant to be laying on flights to Stansted through these months, so if any of the members manage a trip over there, please let us know how it went and we hope you have a smooth, problem - free journey and experience.
ATB.
Ciao,
Frances.

Default Scalea in Winter

Well we are in Scalea now and we love it in the winter. Our condominium is so quiet so it is very restful. It is mild at present - not even had to consider any heating in the evening yet. Have spent the last few days outside in T shirts during the day but they do forecast rain for a couple of days.
Ryanair flight from Stansted to Lamezia was on time leaving and arrived early. No queue at the car hire desk and an easy journey to Scalea. So, all in all, so far so good.
If anyone is here at the moment happy to meet up for a drink and a chat so let us know.
Anne & Tony

Hi Ann and Tony

Only wish we could.

Enjoy yourselves and don't get too excited at the football matches.

Hi,
Well, that's great news and it's good to know that travelling to Calabria from Stansted with Ryanair through the winter months is now a viable option.
I don't know how soon we'll be able to get over there but I've always thought it would be so nice to be there during the winter months, as the warmer and dryer weather is so much nicer that what we have to face in the UK! We don't have a place of our own but we have family over there who are in the holiday rental business, so we wouldn't be short of somewhere to stay. Here's hoping those flights are here to stay!
Enjoy your time in Calabria - the good weather, good food and relaxing environment should set you up for whatever's left of the winter! Not too bad in the east at the moment - mild and sunny for December - much different to the freezing cold and snow we had last year!
Ciao a tutti,
Frances.

Just thought I would say that anyone hiring a car from Hertz at the moment can receive a small discount by using the code:- 716070.
Cheers, Billy.

How is the weather now in Calabria? Winter has now arrived in Scotland with 80--100mph gales on Thursday and snow this morning. The Cairngorms had gusts of up to 165mph on Thursday---vehicles were blown on their sides blocking many roads, trees were uprooted and the Forth and Tay bridges were both closed causing much traffic chaos.Cost of the damage has been estimated at 100 million pounds. This all makes this summer's holidays in Scalea feel like a distant memory.
Hope that the weather in Scalea is still good for all you lucky folk who are there at the moment. Roll on next Spring and Summer.
Cheers Billy.

We have had a bit of rain in December but on the 8th we were at the xmas market in Diamante and it was glorious. Sunglasses and shirt-sleeve weather.
November was especially good this year and , although it is a little overcast today, it is nevertheless 18.5 degrees outside.
Doug might chime in with his weather report for November as he told me towards the end of the month his weather station had recorded twenty plus sunny days.
I saw the Scottish weather on the BBC news website the other day and it has been really extreme!

Hey Billy et al,

November here was perfect with 27 days sunshine; min temp 7C; Max temp 26C; Ave temp 22C; Total rain 25.2mm. The worst wind gust so far has been 58mph (here exposed in the village) which will not compete with that Scotland weather. I want to see Scotland one day, but apparently winter is not the time. Good grief.

In comparison, last November was awful with only 14 days of sun and 316mm of rainfall.

So far ave temp in Dec is 18C. We are NOT dreaming of a white christmas in Calabria. Buuuut the weather is about to get wet for a week or more.

Default Weather

The wonderful thunderstorm we just had left snow on our terrace!!! It's gone now but this is the coldest evening we have had so far with a temperature of 8 degrees. Still better than most of the UK (and Scotland!!!).
Can't gloat as we are back there on Wednesday.
