Does anyone have any updated news on the marina which was possibly being built in Scalea. Saw a picture on Doug's blog mentioning a little bit about it?

Jessie, we happened across an article in a Cosenza paper about it. There have been some meetings, but we don't follow local news closely and have never attended one. There was an artist's conception drawing and a discussion how the provincial government will support the project with "political and technical assistance". No mention of funding. To do what is proposed would mean dredging huge quantities of sand and rock beach away from in front of the Torre as best we can interpret the picture. Certainly would need stabilizing dikes and riprap to preserve it all. Big, expensive project. Could not tell if it is meant for larger yachts or the small boats like are used there now. Seems Cetraro and Maratea already provide moorings for the wealthy. I cannot imagine public funding for such a thing showing up soon in this economy. But surprises do happen. FYI

Hi Jessie,
Don't know if you saw it, but I had a long-winded spiel here about the marina that I have deleted. Suffice to say, we do not support the project, but we have nothing to say about it anyway as stranieri. Sometimes I like to hear myself too much and need to put a cork in it.
