Hi all
Only two more days and we will be in Scalea. I can't wait. I will have to be careful with the new one way systems. How are they working out?
Ciao
John

The one way systems are fine - the main ones are either side of the Spar and there are a few side roads where you can only go one way between the two. Knowing what to do is easy - plenty of obvious signs but the main thing to look out for is the occasional driver who either ignores the signs or just continues to go the way they have always gone!! Worst when you are crossing the road thinking it is one way - they seem to come from everywhere . . . but more than that there are no gaps in the traffic for you to cross.
Guess it would be no better in the UK if they changed the system there.

Default One way system

Having posted that all was reasonably OK with the one way system - we saw today the 'piece de resistance' Italian style.
A chap had come out of one of the side roads - ignored the one way signs and turned right instead of left. Only trouble was that his front wing ended up creating an Italian 'designer dent' in a Carabinieri car. Needless to say there was quite an audience and a red-faced driver was having his details taken by the Carabinieri - don't think he will be able to get away with that one!!

Hi John,
I hope you have all of these wayward Italian drivers sorted out before I get to Scalea in a weeks time. Like you, I can't wait to get there. After reading Anne's stories, I think extra caution on the roads will be necessary both in the car and on foot.
Ciao ,Billy.

Hi Billy

Yes when driving in Italy always expect the unexpected.
I will just have to be extra vigilant.

Thanks for the information annetigano. It will be most useful.

Ciao

John

Default Giro d'Italia

Just to say the Giro d'Italia passes through Scalea today (Saturday 14th) at approx. 12.30/1,00. The route is from Sapri to Tropea so plenty of places to watch along the coast if you are not in Scalea.
