Hello Ricky,
The Kindles work just fine all around here. We have two of them. We also use the wireless USB modems (dongles to the British) here. Our's is from TIM but other carriers have them too. In Scalea, they work pretty well at 3G speed. Out in Santa Domenica Talao, the local tower is providing less than 3G speed, so we avoid looking at YouTube or other video clips. Still better than dial-up which is all thats offered in our village.
If you go to the telefonino shop on the pedestrian mall in Scalea, you can buy the dongles. They are roughly €100 to buy and run about €20 per month depending on the program you get. Both our dongles have 6000 minutes each per month. Hence, we do well for €40 per month which is cheaper than what we had in the US. Just like Italian phones, if you don't use-up all the minutes whilst here, you can use it next time you return. Just don't use it back in the UK where you'd be roaming. bad bad
Another local tip -- the Hotel Genova has high speed WiFi. You can go inside for a drink and use their service, or sit across the street on a bench and get it gratis. We do this now and then for downloading large video files. Best of luck. |
