Smile Ryanair flights to lamezia

Hi

I saw the following information in another Calabrian website just now I do not know if this is true.

According to the following the flights have been re-instated, however the Ryaniar web page does not show it yet, but this is an industry specific website, which presumably have been advised of the impending change.

TheAirDB - The Global Aviation DB

Kind regards

Teresa

Hi,
Thanks for your post. It certainly seems as though this advice is up-to-date and has also been quoted/posted on another Calabrian forum today. I tried doing a web trawl to see whether there was any more reliable or detailed information about these flights being reestablished but I think the news is so fresh (i.e. only posted today) that it's hard to know whether this is actually going to happen.
However, there have been rumours for some time about this and I believe Ryanair themselves have never discounted the idea of the flights being restarted to and from Stansted to Lamezia. It seems an awful waste if they don't, seeing as they were so well-established with their own check-in, carousel and everything at Lamezia - it seems as though they pulled out just as the route was attracting a lot of business.
I guess it's just a case of keeping an ear to the ground and watching the Ryanair site for any further news.
Thanks again for posting the information on the forum, though, as many members will be most interested in any new developments and if anyone knows anything more about this popular Stansted/Lamezia route being reconnected by Ryanair, perhaps they would be kind enough to share it here with the rest of us.
Here's hoping!
Ciao,
Frances.

Hi Lesley,
Thanks for the update - I guess it makes sense to check out the Ryanair news page first! I couldn't find any information from them on Google yesterday - only the link to the AirDB wesite posted by MC.
This is great news for those of us who used to rely on those flights to get to this part of Calabria.
The more people who use this route, the more likely it is to stay in place. It did become really popular before it was closed and I'm sure it will be really well-used by regular travellers to the area.
Thanks again.
Ciao,
Frances.

Default Ryanair Stansted/Lamezia

Fantatic news; now if the coach would reinstate we would be so stress free on our journeys.

Just checked the site; it's not showing up yet but hopefully soon.

Default Lamezia flights in 2011?

The article about it is dated 08.12.05 - is there a 2010 article somewhere?

Hi Lesley,
That's an easy mistake to make - you're not the first and I didn't notice the date, either! However, when I tried to "book" Ryanair flights on their site this morning, I was encouraged to see that there is just one flight showing up on March 27th for flights in and out of Lamezia Terme, albeit on the same day, so it does seem as though something is happening on the site.
I found further indication for this at this at this link:

Lamezia Flights with Ryanair - Cheap Flights to Lamezia

However, if anyone is able to come up with anything more substantial, we're "all ears"!
Ci vediamo presto.
Ciao,
Frances.

Hi Lesley,
Thank you for your diligent search for the new Stansted/ Lamezia flights and for posting the information for us to view.
I tried searching from the main menu on the first Ryanair page but found I couldn't locate Lamezia as a destination when I put in Stansted as the outgoing flight (I started with 2nd March, 2011). However, when I put in Rome as the destination, I found I could then click on "New Search" at the bottom and was able to locate Lamezia as a destination from there and thus find the flights. (This was a tip I picked up from another forum member.)
I guess the information about these flights is still at its formative stage but it is obvious that they are now bookable through Ryanair. It's interesting to see that these flights are now running from late afternoon/ evening at both airports, rather than early morning, so perhaps this will make for a more leisurely journey both ways! Of course, this could change later on but it's just great to know these flights are back again. It's worth mentioning that there is a maximum 15 kilo baggage allowance, which costs an extra £30.00 per bag (I believe this applies to the checked-in baggage, with the hold baggage allowance being 10 kilos max. but I am open to correction on this if anyone else knows better). The return flight for the week from 2nd to 9th March, for two people carrying one item of baggage each at 15 kilos, came to a total of £163.96, excluding administration fee (if applicable). There don't appear to be any taxes to pay, although I didn't carry the booking through (it was just a trial booking).
It is going to be much more expedient for those travelling from the east and south east to get to Calabria by using Ryanair and I guess it will also be another helpful route for other UK travellers.
If anyone manages to make a succesful Stansted/ Lamezia booking, please let us all know about it here, along with how easy/ difficult you found the process, as it will be helpful for other members who were using the flights previously.
Thanks again.
Ciao,
Frances.

Although I am in the South East its a right pain to get to Stanstead for me - however, I do it if the price is right and I am pleased these flights are reinstated.

I would prefer flights from Gatwick but can't see that happening somehow.

Hi,
Monarch airways recently announced that they were running flights from Gatwick to Lamezia, commencing from April to October, 2011, as previously discussed on another thread. However, you may need to check out their website to make sure that these flights are still available to general tourists, as they were principally being laid on as part of a holiday package, with some seats being reserved for ordinary travellers. Also, they will more than likely work out more expensive than Ryanair's flights, so it may be worth the hassle to make the journey to Stansted.
Just a thought but it's worth looking into.
Ciao,
Frances.

Default Gatwick flights to Naples

I used to fly into Lamezia and enjoyed the scenic 1 hour train journey to Scalea but am not keen on Stansted airport so now fly into Naples and board train to Scalea. Plenty of time to shop and visit Naples between airport arrival and train departure. The train journey is scenic throughout the journey. Or, once you fly into Naples, do some shopping / walk round Naples taking in the sites and sounds, even visit Pompeii and the Amalfi coast en route via train and/or bus then you can pick up train from Salerno to Scalea as the train from Naples stops at Salerno anyway. It can all be done in 1 day en route to Scalea or on your return journey. Just leave your luggage at the lock up in the station.

Cool Re: Ryanair Stansted/ Lamezia flights - update

Hi,
Just a quick update to my previous post:
Please note that Ryanair's new proposed 2011 Stansted/ Lamezia route is still at its 'formative' stage and is currently offline, as some changes to flight times, etc. are currently being made. There is, however, a 'phone number you can try for enquiries: 0871 246 000 but you may not be able to book online or over the 'phone at present.
Apparently, some people have already been able to book flights online while the flights were being shown on the Ryanair website and some that weren't able to do it online did so over the 'phone, although I don't think this is an option at present. It's probably advisable to try the above 'phone number for reassurance on this.
I guess it's just a case of being patient until the Stansted/ Lamezia route is properly up-and-running on the Ryanair website. I was able to access this route on the web page today but no flights are showing up at present, as far as I can see.
If anyone has any further news on the availability of these flights, we would all like to hear about it, please.
Thanks.
Ciao,
Frances.

Smile lamezia

Just about to book Bristol to Rome return flights with Easyjet in August when through google found this site with news about Lamezia. We are hoping to spend 2- weeks in Scalea , my wife and i and four young boys! but could anyone confirm that should Standstead Lamezia be on , would it be better than Rome or Naples and is there a train from Lamezia to Scalea? Before anyone thinks we must be crazy , well my wife is a Napolitana so this helps:
Thanks Tony

Tony, the trains are good from Lamezia to Scalea (about 1 hour). Short taxi ride from airport to train. Same is true in Napoli to Scalea (about 2 hours by train). Regarding advance reservations on the trains, I don't know -- another experienced traveler can jump in. Trenitalia does not take our American credit card, so the the couple times I used the train we just showed up and found seats. Could be verrry different for sure in August when everything is so crazy.

Thanks Doug for you help/advice , you might be right about things being a bit crazy in august! Also as we have to travel from Torquay (Devon) i think Bristol to Rome will be better than London Stanstead to Lamezia for us as Bristol is 2 hours from home where as Stanstead is 4 1/2 hours, and of course we will have to visit my in-laws in Naples on the way back. Still the news of a Lamezia link is interesting. Thanks again Tony

Hi Tony. We're Devon and have mostly used Bristol-Rome, stopping off at relatives for a night in Naples. Once did Bristol-Rome and then back Lamezia-Venice-Bristol (the hire car from Rome could be dropped off at Lamezia). Have lately been checking out the possibility of using Newquay-Gatwick and Gatwick-Naples. With Air South West the times would have been really good but they've now finished and not sure about Flybe. Will write here if we try it. Newquay is convenient for us - maybe not so good for you. It's a shame Exeter doesn't do anything except Paris - looked into that but it's the 'other' airport in Paris so you'd have to do a jump like the Heathrow-Gatwick one. Good luck.
