Question Flooring etc

Floor tiles or laminate can anyone recommend, last quote for floor tiles was 40 euros per square metre, and does anyone know of a cheap plumber and electrician in the Scalea area, paid 100 euros to have two ceiling fans fitted, ouch is everything so expensive or do they see us coming ?

Hi Claire
I don't know what the electrical work entails, or how urgent it is, but we have a place in Scalea and I am a qualified electrician. I also carry out some other aspects of general property maintenance here in England. I am looking to do a few bits and pieces in Italy and hopefully build up gradually. Although to begin with, due to limited access to tools/transport I will probably have to limit myself to small electrical jobs and painting in Scalea (fitting 2 ceiling fans would have fallen into this category - euro 50 approx). I would look to fit small jobs in during the 12 weeks or so that we currently spend in Scalea each year, but if any larger jobs arose or if things took off I would obviously be willing to make a special trip. Depending on how things develop I hope to purchase a greater range of tools over in Italy and so increase the type of work that I can carry out. I will send you a PM with my email address in case I can be of any assistance.
Regards
Andy

Hi Claire,

I was a tiler for many years. I do a lot of laminate floors now and other joinery work also painting and basic plumbing. I would not recommend laminate flooring for Italy unless you live their all the time. There is too much dampness in the houses and apartments. Laminate is just compressed paper. I don't think it would last too long. You are better of with tiles, tiles can be a lifetime job.
