Default How did you find...

Hi again. Just wondering...how did everyone here find out about Scalea and the surrounding area as a vacationing spot? It seems like everyone on this forum is either British or Irish.

Sono americano.

Hi Rob,
I personally discovered the area through TV programs. The first one I saw was called "I Want that House" about 6 or 7 years ago and it featured a couple buying an apartment in San Nicola Arcella. Since then Scalea has been featured in "A place in the sun Home or Away" twice on British TV. I also remember seeing Tony Hackett from Calabria Property in another TV prog. which featured Scalea Centro Storico and our very own Lesley and Brian in yet another TV show which featured the area.Lesley and Brian also were interviewed for the Italia Magazine a few years ago. This all lead to my reading about Calabria on the Internet and buying an apartment 5 years ago which I have enjoyed ever since. In fact I will be having my second 6 week break of the year in Scalea in a few weeks time.
Can't wait, Billy.

Hi Rob,
We also found Scalea through 'Place in the Sun'. I was cooking dinner so couldn't get watching the programme. Later that night went online, typed in "where is Scalea" and it all went on from there. This website was top of the list if I remember and after reading everything about it, got in touch with David and the rest is history! Best decision we ever made and now we and our extended families are enjoying lovely holidays there. It has everything, sun, delicious food and very friendly people. Hope we can continue to enjoy it for many years to come

Jessie

Hi Rob,

On the internet. Tony Hackett had some properties on the internet, he arranged for us to go and visit several over the course of a week and we bought in San Nicola Arcella in 2004. We visit two or three times a year. We just came back at the end of July having spent two glorious months there.

Default Hi Rob

Hi Rob,
I am an American from California. I am not there yet but am heading out in a few weeks to meet with Tony and look at apartments. Tony got me in touch with some people and there are some very helpful people in this forum. There is information on just about anything you want to find out about here. I can't wait!

Default Tony's website

Oh I forgot. Tony's company is called Scalea Property Services. You can google it and it will come right up. You can look at properties there.

Anche siamo Americani Rob. We used the internet, this forum and Tony's Scalea (now Calabria) property website. The property website is at the beginning of this one we're in . It took us two weekends of looking at places and we settled on this place in Santa Domenica Talao where we now live permanently since February. There are a few other American couples in the area and several more have holiday apartments or homes.

Fire away if you have questions and you might be interested in Diana's blog that has restoration info and general stuff about moving to and living in Italy.
