Events end June/July

Hi all, will be coming over to Scalea next week (25th) for ten days. Was wondering if there are any festivals or events on. There will be seven of us so was hoping for a few ideas to entertain the relatives. Also, maybe if Lesley is reading this, do you think the white-water rafting would be suitable for the 50 plusses. Just want to try out a few different things this time.

There are different levels of white-water rafting so you can choose which you would be most comfortable with. Brian is in his seventies and managed it no problem!

There is a lot of stuff going on but we have lots of friends visiting just now so I don't have a lot of time to post events etc.....

I'm pleased to see that there seems to be an upsurge in the use of social media in the area so I am now getting lots of invites to things that are going on via Facebook so I'd suggest you could try that too.

Hope you got to Scalea okay on the 25th - I didn't realise it was national strike day - some of my family (elderly) drove to Stanstead to fly to Naples but had to drive home again. Everyone and his dog in Italy (iyswim) were on strike that day (airport workers, pilots, baggage, trains, buses, public and private sector workers.......)

I'm wondering if there is a particular website (in Italian or English) that we can check in future to see if there are national strikes planned - its just my family only recently booked the flights and are of course gutted. I want to check before they book again for later in the again so it doesn't happen twice.

This is a very good site I use now where you can filter out the areas you want and dates required. The one below is set up for Calabria and July but you can easily change all parameters. Note that the Peperoncinio Jazz festival (a must for all) is very visible from July till September. Not sure if all the religious festas are included but also check the sagras which are food events in local villages higlighting the delights of the local produce, usually no more than 3 or five euros a head for a small meal and some wine usually in the open air in a village square or similar.
