New to the forum, but second year in Scalea.
Anyone know where I can go to hear live music?

Hello Jennifer,

One place we know of is the Melle Cafe in San Nicola A. They don't start until May, but are into jazz with the owner a trumpet player. We are not really night owls, but there surely is something in Diamante and/or Praia a Mare which always seem "hopping" when we drive thru. I've not seen signs in Scalea, but we have not been into every single bar in town.. There is a sign for a discotek near Parco Marina off Via Lauro.

I don't know what kind of music you like, but I believe that during the summer there are classical recitals from time to time in the Cedro Museum, just off the SS18 at Santa Maria del Cedro. Worth having a look - we missed a few good things last year, because it was long after the season that we discovered to place.

If you are around in July/August there are a plethora of summer music festivals, the Peperoncino being the most well known in the area with concerts all round including Scalea. My son and I enjoyed a number of them last year and I can tell you there were some very good bands/ singers. We were also surprised how well they are organised with free wine tasting and small buffet for a few euros in the most convivial surroundings,usually the Centro Strorico of the hosting paese. I am subscribed to their mailing list and as soon as I have the new programme in May, will post it here.
