Car Hire/road tax

Has anyone had experience of the road tax added by car hire companies from 1st April? It seems they want to add €4.85 a day. Has anyone found a company where it is included? Any information greatly appreciated.

Hello,
I've just checked my car hire for 6 weeks in May/June and,for a Fiat Panda,I am paying £494. This is done through the Ryanair site using Hertz and includes Road Tax. I also tried dates in September/October for another 6 weeks using Hertz Advance [again on the Ryanair site]and was quoted £509. This also includes Road tax. I use the Edinburgh/Rome route through Ryanair.I think if the car hire companies try to add an extra Daily charge we will all be using public transport and the hire companies will lose a lot of business.

The point I am trying to make is that the quotes I've received for car hire in 2010 are ,more or less,on a par with the cost of my car hire in 2009 for the same number of weeks. I haven't noticed any significant increase in the price.

Thanks Billy. Have tried Hertz (via Ryanair) and they are much more expensive at the moment. Will no doubt come up with a good rate soon.

Hello again ,
On the Ryanair site at the moment if you click on the "up to 40% off" your quote will be expensive. If,however,again on the Ryanair site you will see:-
Flights Online Checkin Hotels HERTZ.
If you click on Hertz and fill in your dates etc.this will take you to the next page and on the Left hand side you will see Special Offers. Click on this and this will take you to another page with these special offers. The offer I am using for Sept/Oct. is the BOOK IN ADVANCE offer and the price is more reasonable. If your car hire is more than 30 days away you will get 20% off the price.More than 60 days away and the cost drops by 25%.

Hi Fifi and Annetigano,
Sorry, I didn't realise that for a one week or two week hire the free kilometer allowance was so low ie.1050km and 2100km respectively.If you are driving from Rome,for instance,you aren't left with much. I think the return journey from Rome to Scalea is approx. 850km. In my own case the allowance is fine--5700 free km-- as I am hiring for 6 weeks in Sept/Oct so I will be able to monitor the amount of kilometers I use per week. It should be more than ample for me.
