Google Translate

Just saw the post on google translate . I opened it and translatered some English to Italian but couldnt find the sound button. Help?????

Hi Annette,

When you put your word in and press the translate button you get the translation and there is a sound sign very faint beside the word if you press this you should hear the word , make sure your sound is on the computer.

Hi all,

Beware these automatic translation packages! For a horrible example of what they can lead to, read the "English" brochure on sale in that otherwise pleasant Museo del Cedro, in Santa Maria del Cedro. It is total gibberish - thanks to a "translation" by computer.

They may be fine for individual words, but put in a sentence and the results can be, to say the least, bizarre. It brings to mind a very famous language course which came out many years ago with the delightful title of -

"THE ENGLISH AS SHE IS SPOKE"

Loved the Occhio resta la mia valigia! Reminds you of those Japanese hotel instructions they keep putting in papers for laughs. The penny never seems to drop that you need a native speaker in the language you're translating into - even for pretty basic stuff as English has so many idioms and catchphrases. Reminds me of us being force fed French at school and going around saying Fermez haut - guess we'd have gone for Chiudere sopra if they'd been trying to cram Italian into us.
