Default Parco Meridiana update

If you're heading out to Parco, don't forget to take your swimming cossie because - THE POOL IS OPEN

Yes - you read that correctly - a whole month earlier than expected - we watched it happen and could not believe our eyes!

We did think it was a dream - until we realised how cold the water was!!!!!!

Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Kevin

Thanks for the information. I am due out in two weeks. The pool will be a bonus. I don't mind breaking the ice and chasing away the penguins and the polar bears.

Is Pietro in situ this year? I earnestly hope not. We thought he should be renamed Pigro.

Ciao

John

Yes, he is back (with a friend this time).

We had a laugh watching them clean out the pool. (Mind you it was hot for them - they took their jackets off!!) Luckily Pino was around paying surprise visits throughout the day. So funny though - they sat on the side of the pool when it was empty having a ciggie break and as soon as Pino appeared it was all hands to the pumps. He did keep on at them all day and the cleaning was practically done in one day - even getting rid of the frogs/toads. They looked exhausted by the time they knocked off at about 7.30pm! They seem to be doing the gardening as well this year - no sign of the 2 gardeners that were there last year.

Regards

Kevin & Jayne

Default Parco Meridiana

Hello All

Thanks for the update on the pool, Great News!!!!

We will be there from the 14th May-26th and really looking forward to it, especially for Ben and the use of the pool!!!
To answer anyone's questions on the site charges, We are coming to the end of our second year of ownership and we will be paying a second maintenance charge to Pino, this time round.

We thought we would travel down by train from Naples to Scalea for the first time, and we have to change at Sapri station, has anybody done this journey and had to change trains before? Any tips?

Ciao Jackie, Paul & Ben

Hi Jackie Paul & Ben

We have done this trip and had to change at Sapri, only we didnt know this and we were sitting on the train waiting like eejits ( Irishism !) for the train to move only to be told by cleaners that we had to get another train. That was a few years ago, since then we have got onto the website trenitalia.it and made sure we booked a direct train to Scalea with no change, even if we had to wait an extra 20 mins it was worth it.
You can book and pay for your ticket online and print it out so no messing around at ticket offices etc. Dont forget bus from Naples airport is only 3 euro and leaves you very close to the Central
Station.

Regards,
June

Have done the Naples to Scalea train after flights with Easyjet, if you are lucky enough to get early flights and avoid an overnight stay, the journey is easy and there are often promotions so you can get some very good deals, the only problem we have had with the e-ticket is being double booked on the return journey, as the carriage we should have been seated in didnt exist, but the Italians were very reasonable about it and one young man would not accept offers of his seat from my daughter and grandson

Default Train Advice

Many Thanks June & Clare for your help on this,
Unfortunatly our flight gets in at 1.35pm and there is no straight through trains until 16.42pm so i guess we will give it a go!
Our train leaves at 15.42 then change at Sapri arrive Scalea 18.20pm.
Was it an easy change at Sapri June, when you realised you had to get off?

Ciao Jackie, Paul & Ben

Yes we just hopped on another train. The station is only a local station so you wont get lost. It was just easier to get the train direct when we had baggage. But there was no problem.

That has been very helpful, and put our minds at rest.
Didn't fancy the thought of hanging around Sapri station for a long time, after all day traveling with a 2 year old!!!!
Ciao

Hi Jackie

That is a long day with a two year old!. Looking at the timetables it looks like you are on a Eurostar to Sapri and will have a half hour wait at Sapri. I dont know, as we were on a regional train, but I am sure you have done research on the times of trains. There is one other alternative, sometimes Tony Hackett has transport coming from Naples Airport I dont know how much it would be but if you were interested you could phone him and get a price. (You would need to tell him about Ben so he would know that a babyseat would be needed) Just a thought.

You could always take the later train and spend some time in Naples, its possible to store your cases at 4 euros each at the Central station, the archaeology museum wont cost much by taxi and has some amazing treasures from Pompei etc, and there are also some lovely Pizza restaurants nearby(4 euros) for their deliscious Margarita, Naples isnt a beautiful city but is safe enough during the day and we coped okay with a three year old in tow, didnt use the bus from the airport got a taxi which cost 20 euros thought with a pushchair and luggage it was less hassle, have a good trip

Must write some words in defence of Naples! It is a wonderful city. Yes, there is violence but it is usually 'in house' and doesn't effect tourists. Yes, you have to keep your wits about you in the centre but it's all pretty obvious stuff. As far as things to do and see are concerned it's incredible and not as 'touristed-out' as Rome. Amazing history and scenery. Go for an ice cream at Mergellina where you have the view across the bay. Walk around the bay - from the castle near the port to the American Embassy - it's not that big a trek. See the excavations under the cathedral - Greek and before - and the Greek streets excavated under many of the streets. Just walking around the old part is like permanent theatre.
