In fact the EHIC is acceptable except that it should be the equivalent of E121 rather than the E111 (both these numbers have recently changed but relate to the tourist(E111) and resident in foreign country version) . The E121 or new equivalent is easily got from the UK side.

As for the financial bit I only presented my pension statement and that was accepted straight off in Scalea.

Thanks for letting us know of your experience in having your pension income accepted without problem in Scalea.
That hasn't been the same experience as others, from what I have been told, but I do sometimes wonder if it depends who you are dealing with and what side of the bed they got out of that day 8-)).

But the EHIC (the plastic card that replaced the E111 paper form) and E121 or E106 are two very different things!

As this was a thread on car ownership which has gone a little off topic I think I will start a new thread re the EHIC, and it's importance, for anyone from the EU holidaying in a country other than the one they are resident in.
