Car hire extras

Ciao,

Could anyone tell me the price added on for an extra driver when you hire a car in Italy?.
We always go with two friends who have a place in La Bruca and we always hire two cars. This time we are thinking of hiring one car. We will be driving down from Rome.

Also, what is the price of petrol and diesel over there at present?

Hello Michael,
If you are using Ryanair flights to get to Rome, Hertz have a good offer at the moment if you can book more than 30 days or 60 days in advance. Just click on the SPECIAL OFFERS once you are through to the Hertz site. Then just put in your approx. dates and the site will come up with a price [I think this is the prepaid price ]. From there,click on the Rental Qualifications and Requirements and there is information about extra drivers. It says that additional drivers are possible at a cost of 6.05 Euros per day-Excluding tax, with a maximum charge of 108.90 Euros per rental regardless of the number of additional drivers.
It's also a good idea to take out the insurance4carhire annual insurance at approx £50 which covers Excess payments etc. but you will probably know that already.

Carhire3000.ie are usually cheaper than Hertz for a second driver. You would need to phone them before you book however, as their website says that the charge is payable locally. As far as I can recall though, they only charge about €2 to €3 per day.
They do however charge extra for road tax - another couple of euro per day.
And last Easter they charged €7 per day for a carseat for my grandson- €70 for ten days! I could have bought one for less.
You win some and then you lose some!
