The Scuola Media in Scalea holds free Italian lessons every afternoon through the school year. (End of September to early June)
I believe they are funded by the European Social Fund and they are available to all at no cost.
You need to enrol at the school office (it's best to do this in the mornings between 10 and 12). You will need to bring proof of ID.
The classes are held from 4pm/ 4.15 pm until 6 pm every afternoon but there is no requirement to attend every day (although if you want to make best use of the classes I would recommend it).
There are two teachers and two classes.
When I asked her our teacher did say that anyone who was in the area for a month or two at a time would be welcome to come along for the duration of their stay - so the lessons can be pretty flexible.
