Ciao a tutti,
I just heard that Ryanair have withdrawn their threat to suspend all domestic (internal) flights in Italy and has stated it will restore all its Italian domestic flights - without interruption - from January 23rd, having reached an agreement with ENAC, the Italian civil aviation authority. Apparently, the dispute was over security risks due to Ryanair's new online check-in policy, so all travellers on these flights will now have to produce either a passport or an approved EU/EEA National Identity Card. It would appear that this information dates from 7th January, 2010, since this is when it was released through the Times Online website, which you can check for yourself at the following link:
Ryanair will keep flying domestically in Italy - Times Online
I guess this is good news for all those who have to make a connection to another airport within Italy and it gives the rest of us some assurance that flights will be operating as usual from around March of this year. If anyone has any further news on the commencement of the Stansted/Lamezia flights for 2010, or any of the other flights from the UK to Lamezia, perhaps they would kindly post it here.
On the downside, the same website carries another article about Ryanair's plans to change strategy re: expansion and this will undoubtedly mean a sharp rise in air fares. Shame, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. You can check out the article here:
Ryanair puts brakes on cheap air travel - Times Online
Hope this helps. I realise the information is five days old but thought I would share it with the members who might not have heard.
Ciao,
Frances.
