Question Bus from Rome to Scalea

Hi All,

Would anybody know if there is a bus service from Rome Fiumicino to Scalea?
Has anyone ever traveled on a bus to Scalea. I have tried to find a bus service on the internet without success.
I am traveling in May.

Happy New Year to everyone.

Michael.

I think this has been written about somewhere on this site before - but try Consorzio Autolinee S.r.L. - scroll down and there's a timetable and prices - they seem to leave Rome at 14.30 and 16.00 - but they leave from Stazione Tiburtina which is only a short taxi ride from Staz. Termini. Can you let us know how it goes if you do it - would be really interested.

Had another look at that site and the 14.30 bus is only on Mondays (it's the return bit of the overnight one that goes up Sunday nights and looks like it's for returning students) but the 16.00 is ever day. It is down as going from Tiburtina and not Termini though so ?is there another one. Noticed there's a service from Milan as well - again leaves at 16.00 and gets to Scalea early morning - OK if you can get yourself comfortable I guess! Haven't checked recently but our local bus station (in the far far West!) always had timetables to get from here to Rome and Naples. Would think you'd need to get into training! I did Naples - Plymouth once by train (pre-tunnel) and it took 37 hours though I guess a train's easier than a bus. Rome-Scalea isn't too long though is it so let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the information. I will check online again. But becacause of the times I will probably hire a car again. I would like to go by bus or train sometime, maybe next year.

Hope to see some of you when we are over in May.

Default Bus from Rome/Scalea

Hi All,
Just on the subject of car hire(again), got very expensive quote about two months back re. a nine-seater for end of June 2010 and so we were all going to do overnight in Rome and train next day. At the weekend came across carhire3000.com and got a great price. Had never heard of them before so called and asked who they usually use at Rome and they said Hertz, Europcar or Maggiore. We have decided to go ahead and book and take a chance and see how we go. A friend used them recently for a hire care in England (they arranged him with Hertz) and everything went smoothly. Just thought I would let you know about them in case anyone else is looking for a competitive quote. Fingers crossed there will be no problems. Have the Insurance4carhire yearly policy up and running anyway to cover the excess.

Hi,
Thank you for your contribution and I now have the carhire3000.com website in my favourites - it's always good to widen your options and be able to cross-reference tariffs, specs., etc.
Just to let you know that there are new postings on the car hire thread, in case it's any help to you, as Ryanair is offering some good deals for car hire at the moment.
Insurance4carhire is great for the excess and they also do other insurances now (I'm not an agent, by the way!) All of these things save on expense and hassle and are well worth knowing about, especially if you are a frequent traveller to the area.
Have a great time in Italy.
Ciao,
Frances.

Hi,
We have used Carhire 3000 a number of times in the past, and have always found them okay. If you read their small print however, you will find that the local road tax/ car tax is not included in their quoted price. It is only a small daily charge, but if hiring for a few weeks you could get a nasty surprise, as we discovered last summer.
They also sometimes use a company called Targarent in Ciampino Airport.

Hertz have a good deal on offer through the Ryanair website if you book 60 days in advance. We availed of this offer at New Year, and paid approximately€190 for a Fiat Panda for 10 days or so. The catch? We had to pay an extra €8 per day for a second driver! So when is a bargain really a bargain?

Hope this info may be of some help.

Regards,
Markel

Hi again all,
We also got a good deal through Aer Lingus/Hertz (we fly from Belfast-Rome) for end April for a Ford Focus but when we tried it for the larger vehicle, there was nothing as big as the nine seater on offer, there was a list to choose from and that was it, you couldn't progress to the next page without picking something from that list. I found out today that the nine seater will be hired through Maggiore so we are hoping all will go well.
