Exclamation Driving fines

In July I received a letter from Commune di Roma advising me that we had done a traffic infraction on 7th December 2007!!!! We had apparantly gone into a zone that was only authorised for people with permits?? I duly payed this as they said failure to do so would cos it to go the the European Commision and there would be further charges. I then received another letter again for the same date in Rome for another 113eu. (First one was 109eu. This was from the European Commision. I emailed them back and gave bank statement to show I had paid this, they emailed back and said no that was for another street, this was a different one!!

As we had managed to get lost trying to come out of Rome it is possible that we did drive into 2 unauthorised zones although I don't remember seeing any signs or anything else.

I asked if there was no statute of limitation on this. we are talking nearly 2 years ago.

They replied that they can fine you up to 360 days after the infraction,OR up to 360 days AFTER the car hire company give them your details!!! You can check all the info with the code number they give you for their website, our details were only given to them by the hire company in April this year!!!

So be warned.. We will not be driving in Rome again!!

Hi

We had a similar experience in August 2008 in Florence.

It was for 2 offences in a hire car one on the day we picked up the car and another on our day of return. The offence in both instances was stated as "the vehicle circulated in limited traffic area without authorisation".

Again don`t remember seeing signs or anything but it cost us 101.20 euros for each "offence".

Also we found out through the hire company months afterwards ended up paying online in May this year.

Mart

Hi Cool,

Are you sure it was for parking. A friend of mine got a parking fine in Scalea and I think it was only €30.00. I got a speeding fine once and it was €65.00 on the spot fine.

Michael.
