Hi
I have stayed at several hotel in Rome the last years, most of them have been good but the prices can vary a lot form time to time. I always book my hotels at Hotels.com and have never had any problems with that.
3 weeks ago I was in Scalea and stayed 1 night in Rome first and last night.
First night at Hotel Borromeo just 5 min. walk from Termini down Via Cavour in the direction of Forum/Colloseum. Good hotel to a good price, payed 120 euros for a doubleroom.
On the return date the price at Hotel Borromeo was 180 euros for a doubleroom so I choosed another hotel also 5 min from Termini down Via Cavour but then to the left 1-2 min. This hotels name was Hotel Contilia and the price was 120 euro a doubleroom. Got a nice and big doubleroom and a good standard.
For both hotels its easy to walk to all the atractions as Colloseum and Forum, Trevifontana, spanish steps, Pantheon, Piazza Navona etc. Even to St. Peters church its no more than 30 - 40 min walk or 5-10 min with the Metro form Termini.
Have also stayed at Grand Hotel Pallatino further down Via Cavour, just a few min. before you reach Colloseum/Forum/Via dei Fori Imperiali. This is the best hotel I have stayed at in Rome and it is even more central than the other 2 I have mentioned, but then 10 min walk from/to Termini. This Hotel almost never cost below 165-170 euros for a doubleroom, but you can almost always get a room for that price at hotels.com
I have also stayed at Bettoja hotel Atlantica in Via Cavour very close to Termini (3 min. walk) I then payed only 110 euros for a doubleroom and the hotel was good. But later I havent got good prices on this hotel, always around 160 - 180 euros for a doubleroom so I have choosed the other hotels I have mentioned that is at least as good and central as Bettoja but for a much better price. And if you have to pay around 170 eoros the Grand Hotel Pallatino is much better than Bettoja if you ask me.
I have also stayed at other hotels in the area around Termini but the prices for those have all been about 110 - 120 euros for a double room and not the same standard as those I have told about here.
Hope this can be to your help.
Regards
